Maycee Barber breaks silence after shocking last-second withdrawal from UFC Vegas 107 headliner

UFC women’s flyweight contender Maycee Barber addressed Erin Blanchfield’s post-event comments in her first statement after UFC Vegas 107.

Top 5 UFC flyweight contenders Maycee Barber and Erin Blanchfield were set to cap off a chaotic fight week with an intriguing UFC Vegas 107 main event on Saturday night. But just minutes before the two young stars were set to walk to the Octagon, disaster struck on Barber’s side of the headlining bout.

After the last pre-fight promo played at the UFC Apex for UFC Vegas 107’s main event, Blanchfield and Barber didn’t immediately walk out to the Octagon, prompting massive confusion for UFC viewers and live spectators. Chaos ensued as the UFC Vegas 107 broadcast team tried to figure out what was going on.

It then was revealed that Barber suffered a medical issue in the locker room as she and her team were set to walk out for the Blanchfield fight. The fight was immediately canceled and UFC Vegas 107 ended without the headlining bout coming to fruition.

It was one of the most bizarre ends to a UFC event in the promotion’s recent history, and Barber was quickly rushed to a local hospital after allegedly suffering a seizure. Meanwhile, Blanchfield didn’t take it easy on Barber in her immediate reaction to the bout’s cancelation, just hours after she predicted Barber would pull out of the fight.

Almost 24 hours since the shocking events at UFC Vegas 107, Barber took to social media to update her fans on her health, and to address Blanchfield’s critical remarks.

In a recent Instagram post, Barber issued her first public comments since UFC Vegas 107.

“Not what I had planned for a Sunday post,” Barber began.

“Thank you to everyone for the prayers & support. I owe an apology to [the UFC, Mick Maynard, Dana White, Sean Shelby] and Erin Blanchfield.

“PS my life is not messy this is just a bad hand. We will get to the bottom of it all and be back.”

Barber’s final message referenced Blanchfield’s claims that her ‘entire life is a mess’, as she blasted her scheduled rival for ‘super unprofessional’ behavior. Just hours before Barber withdrew from UFC Vegas 107, she missed weight for the first time in her UFC career by 1.5 pounds.

Blanchfield denied an immediate rescheduling of the Barber fight after UFC Vegas 107, encouraging Barber to pursue a full-time move to bantamweight. But after Barber’s first remarks after UFC Vegas 107, it appears she has no plans of making any drastic changes to her fighting career.

Maycee Barber’s last-second scratch capped off a bizarre fight week at UFC Vegas 107

Barber’s health scare was far from the only strange moment from UFC Vegas 107 fight week. Several fighters missed weight, including flyweight Allan Nascimento, who went on to defeat Jafel Filho on Saturday night.

A scheduled welterweight clash between Andreas Gustafsson and Trevin Giles was canceled after Giles suffered an alleged head injury while cutting weight. Gustafsson will face Khaos Williams at UFC 316 this Saturday in Newark.

Barber was set to appear in her first fight since a win over former title challenger Katlyn Cerminara at UFC 299.
