‘What a time to be alive’… Fans react as robot MMA league launches in China

MMA fans have seen everything from Medieval fights inside a cage to Jiu-Jitsu matches in the front seats of a car.

In the world of MMA, there are constantly new leagues and unique ventures launched to try and attract the attention of the huge fanbase.

At this point, seemingly everything has been tested, from fighters strapping up in armor and going at it with swords, to grapplers sitting in the front seat of a car and choking each other out with a seatbelt.

However, the latest combat sports fight league to launch is something that has been a long time coming, and that is the Robot fight league.

Fans react to new Robot fight league

This past weekend in Hangzhou, China, the world’s first humanoid robot boxing tournament took place as Unitree Robotics armed with a wide range of skills gathered for a livestream tournament called ‘Mecha Fight Series’.

Unitree recently went viral when one of their robots went berserk on workers, swinging punches and nearly injuring those working on the humanoid.

Despite it being marketed as a boxing tournament, the robots were seemingly competing under kickboxing rules, with one of them getting knocked down by a brutal knee to the body.

“Welcome to the fight club of tomorrow,” one fan commented.

“Wow, that’s so cool!” another fan reacted.

“More action than a (Floyd) Mayweather fight,” a third fan said.

Fortunately the robots were controlled by humans using a remote control and not by AI coding.

“It would be more interesting if they weren’t remote controlled robots,” a fourth fan reacted.

Mark Zuckerberg’s META to take over UFC rankings

It seemed as though if anyone was going to make robots fight, it would be American businessman, Mark Zuckerberg, who is a huge fan of the UFC.

Last year, UFC boss Dana White called on Zuckerberg to help him with the UFC rankings, claiming that the current ranking process is outdated and needs overhauling.

Since then, White has teased UFC fans that Zuckerberg will be coming up with a new rankings system in a huge new overhaul.
