‘This is embarrassing’… Fans react as petition to strip Jon Jones surpasses 100,000 signatures

Jon Jones is facing intense pressure to defend or vacate his UFC heavyweight title.

‘Bones’ hasn’t fought since knocking out Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in November 2024.

Since then, he’s been in talks for a unification bout with interim titleholder Tom Aspinall, who has been sidelined since stopping Curtis Blaydes in 60 seconds at UFC 304 last July.

Naturally, the English heavyweight is tired of waiting for Jon Jones, and so are many MMA fans.

Viral Jon Jones petition backed by 100,000 fans

The frustrations of UFC fans with Jones resulted in a viral petition on the website Change.org.

It calls for Jones to be stripped of his UFC championship and has garnered over 104,000 signatures at the time of writing.

Jon Jones shared a five-word reaction to the viral petition when it had just surpassed 40,000 signatures.

“The equivalent to pico grams,” he laughed, referencing a famous controversy from earlier in his career.

Whether the petition affects change or not, many fans believe that it’s a bad look for Jones and the UFC.

“UFC is in such a sad state at the moment,” one fan commented. While another added: “Get him out.”

“And STILLLLLLLLLLLLLL champion,” a third person laughed.

“Never seen a guy ruin his legacy more than Jon Jones,” someone else said.

“Get him out,” another exclaimed.

“Honestly this is just embarrassing,” a fifth fan wrote.

“It’s time… @danawhite,” this X user insisted.

Tom Aspinall teases fight news

If Tom Aspinall is being real, we should get a major update about his fighting future on Wednesday.

Earlier this week, Aspinall teased ‘heavyweight news’ amid a 500+ day wait for Jon Jones.

The 31-year-old posted a six-second promo with the date: “28.05.2025”

“Heavyweight news. Coming soon,” Aspinall wrote on social media.

A day later, the heavy-handed 31-year-old shared a cryptic quote to his Instagram story.

Only time will tell what’s next for Jones, Aspinall, and the UFC heavyweight division.
