Having already achieved an incredible career in the UFC and Bellator, a legendary MMA fighter is starting to make serious moves in the boxing ring.
Though she has only fought once per year in recent times, Cris Cyborg is still competing at a high level in mixed martial arts having beaten Larissa Pacheco last October.
Cyborg’s MMA activity may have slowed down but she’s continuing to keep busy in boxing while her ‘legacy tour’ in the cage winds down.
For a long time, the former UFC champion’s main target has been Claressa Shields, who recently confirmed that she won’t be returning to MMA following a brief stint in PFL.
Regardless of whether the Brazilian will be able to secure some form of super fight in the future, the 39-year-old’s latest boxing win has seen her join the top names in her weight class.
Cris Cyborg enters BoxRec’s top 10 rankings at super welterweight following knockout win
Cris Cyborg has made her way into BoxRec’s top 10 world rankings in the super welterweight division following her latest win.
On May 17, the Brazilian stopped Precious Harris-McCray at the Tech CU Arena in San Jose, California to remain undefeated in the ring.
Different platforms have varying records for her professional boxing career with BoxRec now having the PFL Super Fights featherweight champion at 5-0 with four knockouts.
Cyborg has entered the top 10 at the #9 spot with the least pro fights, at least according to BoxRec, of anyone in this specific bracket.
The rankings are currently topped by Cecilia Brækhus, who at 43 years old, is targeting her retirement fight following a historic career.
Brækhus defeated the #8-ranked Maricela Cornejo last August to win the vacant interim WBC super welterweight title having fought to a draw with Terri Harper the year before where the WBA and WBO belts were on the line.
Cris Cyborg names likely opponent for her PFL return
In a recent exclusive interview with Bloody Elbow, Cris Cyborg stated that the undefeated Sara Collins is likely to be her next opponent in PFL.
“I believe she’s gonna be next. I’m excited. I like to think about the next fight in my line. Probably after this [boxing] fight, I’m gonna have the announcement for my next MMA fight.”
Last September at the Bellator Champions Series event in London, England, Collins submitted Leah McCourt, who Cyborg had been targeting for some time.
The Aussie also holds a win over Ireland’s Sinead Kavanagh, who challenged Cyborg for the Bellator featherweight title back in November of 2021, with the champion defending via a first round stoppage.
