Tom Aspinall ramps up training by sparring world champion as Jon Jones flip-flops on UFC retirement

Tom Aspinall continues to quietly train for his eagerly anticipated UFC return.

The interim heavyweight champion hasn’t fought since knocking out Curtis Blaydes in 60 seconds at UFC 304 last July.

Since then, Tom Aspinall has been hell-bent on securing a unification fight with the other UFC heavyweight titleholder, Jon Jones.

Unfortunately, negotiations have been protracted and it’s unclear if their fight will come off.

Tom Aspinall spars Rico Verhoeven

Even though he’s currently in limbo, Tom Aspinall continues to act and train like a true professional.

While Jon Jones is hanging out with Hasbulla in Thailand, his next opponent is sparring with the very best.

On Tuesday morning, Glory heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven shared several pictures from his latest sparring session with Aspinall on Instagram.

“Working with the very best @tomaspinallofficial,” the kickboxing legend captioned his post.

A few hours later, Verhoeven posted a video of him and Aspinall drenched in sweat after their spar.

“Trading leather with the very best is competitive,” he said on his Instagram story.

“You see my hand shaking? We gave it our all.”

Jon Jones flip-flops on UFC retirement

The greatest fighter of all time has spent the past couple of days dropping contradictory hints about his UFC future.

On Monday, Jones sent MMA fans into meltdown by publicly saying he’s ‘done’ with the sport.

Less than 24 hours later, the 37-year-old suggested that he will soon return to the UFC Octagon.

“What I feel like returning to the UFC after some much-needed downtime,” Jones wrote alongside a video showing a dog chasing other dogs out of its yard.

Dana White has ‘100 percent’ guaranteed that Jones will fight Aspinall later this year.

Until their fight is made official, some fans will struggle to believe the UFC boss.
