PFL signs former UFC title challenger who fought Tony Ferguson and Charles Oliveira

It didn’t take long for the PFL to replace one of their biggest stars.

Bellator bantamweight champion Patchy Mix was the latest to leave the Professional Fighters League, joining fighters like Kayla Harrison and Patricio Pitbull in the UFC.

The PFL has lost much of its star power in recent years, losing a number of fighters following their acquisition of Bellator MMA.

In their most recent signing, the PFL has picked up a former title contender from the UFC, one that could be near his prime.

Kevin Lee signs to PFL

On Monday, MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin reported former interim lightweight title challenger Kevin Lee had signed a multi-fight contract with the PFL.

Having competed in the lightweight and welterweight divisions during his time in the UFC, it is unknown which weight class Lee will compete in at this time.

However, it is worth noting Lee was planning on competing at lightweight when he was briefly signed to the GFL following his second UFC release.

Of course, the GFL didn’t go anywhere with the promotion canceling their events due to lack of funds, leaving Lee and fighters like Holly Holm to test free agency.

Lee, 32, is coming off a first-round submission win on the regional scene last September.

Kevin Lee’s strength of schedule in the UFC

‘The Motown Phenom’ entered the UFC in 2014 when he was 21 years old.

Lee lost to Al Iaquinta in his debut and bounced back, going 9-1 en route to an interim title fight against Tony Ferguson in 2017.

Lee had his moments against Ferguson, one of the greatest lightweights of all time, before he was caught in a triangle choke in round 3.

The former title challenger consistently fought top-level competition after Ferguson, sharing the Octagon with the likes of former champion Charles Oliveira, Edson Barboza, former champion Rafael Dos Anjos (at welterweight), Gregor Gillespie, Rinat Fakhretdinov and more.
