Khabib Nurmagomedov has spontaneously paid homage to the man who molded his MMA career.
The former UFC lightweight champion credits his legendary career to his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who sadly passed away in July 2020 due to COVID-19 complications.
At 57 years old, Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s dad left a lasting legacy that sees fighters from his gym still giving him credit, with the latest being PFL champion, Gadzhi Rabadanov, who paid tribute after his $1 million world title win in December.

Khabib Nurmagomedov pays tribute to his late father
On Sunday, Khabib Nurmagomedov shared an old photo of him and his father on Instagram.
‘The Eagle’ used the caption to pay tribute almost five years on from his untimely death.
“My Father, my friend, and my coach,” Nurmagomedov wrote.
“He was everything for us Alhamdulillah.
“Photo was taken 10 years ago.”
Thousands of fans reacted to the photo by flooding Nurmagomedov’s comment section with supportive words.
Khabib Nurmagomedov’s emotional UFC retirement
Khabib Nurmagomedov retired after choking out Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 in October 2020, which took place just three months after his dad passed away.
“When UFC called me about Justin I spoke with my mother for three days,” he said during an emotional post-fight retirement speech.
“She didn’t want me to fight without father and I said this is my last fight – and I have given her my word.
“Thank you so much Justin. I know you are great, I know how you take care of your people. Be close with your parents, because you never know what is going to happen tomorrow.”
In 2025, Nurmagomedov is still happily retired, despite fan calls for him to make an MMA return.
The 36-year-old has emulated his father by becoming one of the greatest combat sports coaches.
Nurmagomedov’s short career as a trainer has seen his fighters capture titles in the UFC, Bellator, and PFL.
Abdulmanap would undoubtedly be proud of the work his son has done since stepping away from fighting.
