Island Boys star Flyysoulja has slammed critics who claim that his fight with brother Kodiyakredd on Friday night is going to be fixed.
The rapping brothers appear to have next to no personal feud – save for a brief dispute over who has more followers – and insist that they aren’t doing the fight for money. As such, questions over the motivations behind their celebrity boxing bout have been raised.
Last month, Kodiyakredd made his boxing debut in the cage in front of UFC boss Dana White. The MMA supremo won $10,000 backing Redd’s opponent Oblivion in a bet with promoter Adin Ross, and now the Florida native returns to the ring just weeks later to fight his brother, who has limited fighting experience.
Island Boys brothers hit back at fight rigging claims
Fans keen to bet on the Island Boys’ fight have noticed that despite Friday night’s fights being backed by a betting company, there are no odds being offered for their bout. The rest of the card appears, and the event is sanctioned by ISKA; the International Sport Kickboxing Association.
Some fans have claimed that the fight will be ‘rigged’, which appears to be an unfounded accusation. This offended Flyysoulja, whose real name is Alex Venegas, with the rapper telling viewers at their pre-fight press conference that they shouldn’t watch if they think the bout is illegitimate.
“Look, Adin Ross seems like he was scared of the comment section,” Venegas said. “They were like ‘oh we not going to do this fight because everyone was saying it was going to be rigged’…
“Hold on, do me a favor, if you think it’s going to be fake, it’s going to be rigged, it’s going to be fake? Just turn off the app [Kick, where the fight is being streamed] and uninstall it. I bet you won’t, I bet any money in your bank account you won’t.”
Island Boys’ reason for fighting seems to be unclear
After Kodiyakredd lost his fight last month, he was expected to return to the ring in June on Brand Risk Promotions’ next show. However, it was announced that he would all of a sudden fight his own brother, who had been scheduled to fight another influencer named Charleston White.
White has had issues getting through medicals due to his age and myriad health issues, so the brothers agreed to fight each other. However, there appears to be no feud between the pair who shook hands during their face-off.
They also both insist that they aren’t doing the fight for money, which begs the question why the fight is even happening at all. However, they both command large viewership and have been placed in the co-main event spot of Ross’ seventh big event.
It appears that Jordan Galen, who acts as something of a Hunter Campbell to Adin Ross’ Dana White, offered the fight to Flyysoulja when his bout fell through. “I had to think about it,” he admitted during the press conference.
“We chopped it up and I was like ‘yeah’… I was already training to fight this old a– man with his old man strength. I’ve been training for about a month and a few days, I’ve been locked in since Jordan told me I had to make weight… I haven’t stopped training and mentally preparing myself for the fight.”
