During UFC 315 fight week, Belal Muhammad wasn’t the only welterweight that Jack Della Maddalena interacted with.
Ian Machado Garry was in attendance in Montreal as the backup fighter where he made himself part of the narrative heading into May 10.
Despite his best efforts, which included gifting the challenger a pack of M&M’s, all Machado Garry got back from Della Maddalena was a sharp comment.
The Irishman is certainly in the mix at 170 pounds but as he said himself, Islam Makhachev will now be the next contender in line following his move up from the lightweight division.
Machado Garry did send Della Maddalena a message to let him know that if the Russian can’t face him for the belt for whatever reason, ‘The Future’ will be on standby.
Ben Vickers says that Ian Machado Garry needs to spend more time in the gym and less time being a celebrity
In a recent interview with Submission Radio, Jack Della Maddalena’s coach gave his thoughts on Ian Machado Garry’s antics during the build to UFC 315.
Scrappy MMA’s Ben Vickers wasn’t overly impressed by the Irishman and he doesn’t believe that anything was ever going to throw his fighter off.
It’s clear that Della Maddalena and Machado Garry are very different personalities with Vickers referencing this when reflecting on fight week.
He believes that the welterweight contender would be better off using his time to work on his finishing ability rather than making himself a star.

Machado Garry’s last finish came in May of 2023 where he stopped Daniel Rodriguez in the first round.
“We’re not in this business to be celebrities and Jack said in his post-fight speech. We just want to win fights and be the best. Jack loves scrapping, Jack loves training. We all love the sport and the process. He can carry on doing, he should concentrate more on finishing fights, especially fights that he’s dominating.
“He needs to stop flying around the world trying to be a celebrity and get in the gym and get some power and figure out how to finish fights. His time would be better spent doing that than trying to wind Jack up.
“You think Jack’s gonna bite on any of that? He doesn’t care man, he’s the most chilled out dude in the world. So yeah, it’s just all a bit silly really.”
Vickers went on to hold up the UFC welterweight title with one final comment on Machado Garry.
“I don’t think Ian [Machado] Garry will ever own one of these in answer to your question.”

Ben Vickers believes that Jack Della Maddalena’s toughest test is Shavkat Rakhmonov
Scrappy MMA’s Ben Vickers is obviously confident that Jack Della Maddalena will beat all of the top contenders in the welterweight division, including Islam Makhachev.
When asked who he believes is the biggest threat out there, Vickers said that it has to be Shavkat Rakhmonov for the simple fact that he’s undefeated.
Della Maddalena has been calling for a fight with ‘Nomad’ for some time but injuries to both men have stopped it from happening.
If the new welterweight champion is able to get past Makhachev, the matchup could finally take place once Rakhmonov is ready to compete again.
