Paddy Pimblett predicts ‘big implications’ for his career as UFC 315 triggers lightweight title uncertainty

Paddy Pimblett believes his career will be impacted by the UFC 315 main event.

The top lightweight contender watched on from home as Jack Della Maddalena dethroned welterweight champion Belal Muhammad at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on Saturday night.

Post-fight, 155lb king Islam Makhachev confirmed he’ll move up a division to challenge the new 170lb champion.

Paddy Pimblett predicts that move will have massive consequences for him and the other lightweights vying for a shot at UFC gold.

Paddy Pimblett reacts to UFC 315

Paddy Pimblett shared his live reaction to several UFC 315 fights on YouTube.

“This is going to shake up my division in a big way,” he said after the main event ended.

Pimblett went on to break down a potential fight between Della Maddalena and Makhachev.

‘The Baddy’ also considered the impact UFC 315 could have on his fledgling MMA career.

“Della vs Islam, he showed he’s got good takedown defense,” Pimblett added.

“But Islam is a different beast, isn’t he?

“So, we’ll have to see how his strength transfers up to welterweight.

“Let’s see what happens in my division now. Who ends up fighting for the belt and who ends up getting the belt. Could have big implications for my career going forward.”

When will Paddy Pimblett fight again?

Paddy Pimblett knocked out Michael Chandler to become a top lightweight contender at UFC 314.

One month later, the 30-year-old Englishman is still celebrating his biggest win to date.

Pimblett’s drastic weight gain has left fans stunned in recent weeks, but he’s got plenty of time to trim back down as he doesn’t plan on fighting again until October.

“My plan even before the fight was to fight in Abu Dhabi in October,” he said in April.

“I’ve always wanted to fight there. The UFC always do a pay-per-view there in October.

“I just think it would be the perfect time to come back. Recharge my batteries over the summer, keep training every day, keep the weight down, and then go right back into camp in August or September.”
