A large majority of the UFC fanbase is happy with the UFC 315 main event result and according to Jack Della Maddalena, Dana White is one of them.
In the UFC 315 main event on Saturday, Belal Muhammad‘s short welterweight title reign was brought to an end by Jack Della Maddalena after a five round war saw a new champion crowned.
Immediately after the fight, Della Maddalena’s first title defense became clear after Islam Makhachev confirmed his plans to move up in weight, which resulted in Della Maddalena sending him a welcoming response.
Makhachev then went on to send another defiant message, telling Della Maddalena that he is ‘not Volkanovski’, telling him to keep his belt clean.
Della Maddalena reveals what Dana White told him after title win
Ahead of the UFC 315 main event, UFC boss Dana White confirmed that the result would determine fights for both Makhachev and Ilia Topuria, as the two would’ve likely fought each other if Muhammad retained the title.
Despite disappointment for ‘Remember The Name’ Muhammad, he was labeled as a ‘boring champion’ by a large majority of the UFC fanbase, who are now happy to see the division under a new reign, and according to Della Maddalena, White is also happy.
The UFC boss skipped out on the UFC 315 post-fight press conference but he made sure to speak to the new champion following his incredible win.
“I spoke to Dana on the phone after the fight,” the Australian confirmed in the post-fight press conference.
“He was just happy, you know, he was happy. I mean, happy for me, not happy for the Belal loss or anything, he was just happy for me and yeah, I guess we’ll see what they think is next,” Della Maddalena continued.
Della Maddalena will look to get revenge for Alexander Volkanovski
Although Della Maddalena and Alexander Volkanovski aren’t directly teammates, they are close friends and the newly crowned welterweight champion wants to get revenge for Volkanovski’s two losses to Makhachev.
With both Della Maddalena and Volkanovski holding titles and representing Australia, the welterweight champion wants to take his fight against Makhachev back to Perth.
“I think it makes sense, obviously Volk and Islam fought in Perth… And that was a great fight, people think Volk, it was a very close fight, I think it makes sense, there’s a story there and obviously, Perth blew the roof off. I think if we could do it with the hometown kid defending the belt, it’d be even better,” Della Maddalena said.
