The UFC lightweight was an interested observer when Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena scrapped for the welterweight title at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on Saturday night.
Islam Makhachev recently announced his intention to move up to the 170lb division if ‘JDM’ won at UFC 315, and that’s exactly what happened as the Aussie favorite outpointed Belal Muhammad over five rounds.
Post-fight, Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s protege confirmed his next opponent on X.

Makhachev initially sent a message of support to Muhammad, who is one of his training partners.
“Head up, champ,” he tweeted at the usurped welterweight king.
The pound-for-pound superstar went on to confirm his plan to move up in weight to fight the new champion.
Makhachev added: “Time to become a double champion. #inshaAllah. Let’s go.”
Jack Della Maddalena vows to avenge Alexander Volkanovski
Makhachev holds two high-profile wins over UFC featherweight titleholder Alexander Volkanovski.
During his post-fight interview, Della Maddalena vowed to get revenge for his friend and training partner.
“I think it’s a beautiful challenge,” he told Daniel Cormier about a potential fight with Makhachev.
“You know, he’s pound-for-pound number one.
“I’m going the get him back for Volk.”
