Jon Jones reveals what he wants to achieve once he has retired from the UFC

Jon Jones’ legendary career in the UFC is nearing its end and there is one thing the greatest of all time wants to accomplish when he is finished competing.

UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones continues to receive flak from the UFC fanbase for delaying a potential title unification fight against Tom Aspinall.

During his time away from competing, Jones has gotten involved in several different opportunities, becoming co-owner of Dirty Boxing Championship.

Not only that, but it was revealed this past Friday that the UFC champion will be coaching in a Russian equivalent of The Ultimate Fighter, against Nate Diaz.

Jon Jones wants to achieve BJJ black belt after UFC career

Despite being widely considered as the greatest fighter of all time, ‘Bones’ is still only a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Although Jones isn’t known for his dominance in the grappling department, he has earned his name as the greatest ever because of his sheer well-roundedness, making it surprising that he still hasn’t reached the top in BJJ.

Despite that, the 37-year-old has revealed that becoming a black belt in jiu-jitsu is something that he would like to achieve when he retires from his UFC career.

“Yes, I’m a purple belt, I’ve been with Gracie Barra for probably six years or so, six or seven years, and I don’t like to train in the Gi because I compete bare chested with no Gi,” Jones began to explain in an interview with Geoffrey Woo.

“My professor tells me that in order for me to ever become a black belt, I need to spend an adequate amount of time in the Gi. Sometimes I like to make fun, when the guys tease me about being a purple belt, I also remind them that I have the ultimate gold belt in combat sports.

“But being a black belt definitely symbolizes a lot of patience and years spent committed. It’s something for me to inspire towards getting after I retire from the Octagon,” Jones continued.

Jones hints towards fight with Tom Aspinall

Despite talks having seemingly hit a block between the UFC and Jones in regard to booking the Aspinall fight, ‘Bones’ recently dropped a hint that he will be fighting the Brit.

The heavyweight champion shared a picture of a wall in his house, filled with all of the UFC posters that he has featured in, leaving a space in the corner for what looks like one last poster.

“The wall’s almost filled… But trust me, the story’s still being written. The best is yet to come,” he ended his statement.

It is unclear what date the promotion is targeting the monumental fight for but it is likely to be one of the biggest fights ever when it does finally happen.
