One UFC legend wouldn’t mind passing the torch to his fellow welterweights.
UFC 315 takes place this weekend with two title fights north of the border in Montreal, Canada. Champion Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena are set to meet for welterweight gold in the main event while Valentina Shevchenko defends her flyweight strap against Manon Fiorot in the co-headliner.
Muhammad has never defended the welterweight title before, having won the belt from Leon Edwards last summer. Even so, ‘Remember The Name’ is already being called the third-best welterweight champion of all time, outranking Robbie Lawler, Tyron Woodley and Matt Hughes.
The consensus greatest are former champions Georges St-Pierre and Kamaru Usman, who wouldn’t mind touching gold once again.

Georges St-Pierre says he’d wrap belt around Belal Muhammad, Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315
Usman still remains in the title hunt at 170lbs with GSP long retired from the welterweight division, not having fought at the weight class since 2013.
In attendance for UFC 315 as a cornerman for Aiemann Zahabi in his fight against Jose Aldo, St-Pierre was asked if he’d consider wrapping the welterweight belt around the winner of Belal Muhammad vs. Jack Della Maddalena in the main event.
“Yeah, of course,” St-Pierre said at a UFC Q&A on Friday.
“If they want me to do it, I’ll do it.
“On Saturday, I’m gonna work as a cornerman. My priority is to be there for Aiemann Zahabi and he has an incredible task ahead fighting Jose Aldo.
“So, if everything goes according to plan and we get the W and they want me to do it, why not?
“Would be an honor,” St-Pierre said of wrapping the belt at UFC 315.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson had honor of wrapping the BMF title
Wrapping the UFC belt on a champion is left to UFC CEO Dana White more often than not. However, over the years, we’ve seen some other familiar faces get the honor inside the Octagon.
In 2019, WWE superstar-turned-actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson was selected to present the inaugural BMF title at UFC 244 for Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz.
Johnson wrapped the silver strap around the victorious Masvidal, thus beginning a trend for the BMF title.
In the second BMF title fight between Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier, Masvidal awarded Gaethje the belt and in the latest installment at UFC 300, the UFC’s first heavyweight champion Mark Coleman handed the belt off to Max Holloway after his buzzer-beater KO of Gaethje.
The BMF title might not be on the line between Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena but Georges St-Pierre wrapping the belt on the winner isn’t out of the realm of possibility. After all, the Canadian UFC legend is in Montreal of all places.
