UFC Des Moines headliner Cory Sandhagen isn’t short on one-liners for his upcoming fight against Deiveson Figueiredo.
The #4-ranked UFC Bantamweight steps into the main event spotlight for the eight time in his career at UFC Des Moines this Saturday.
Cory Sandhagen attempts to return to the win column as well as the title picture with a win over former two-time flyweight champ Deiveson Figueiredo. Both top-5 contenders are coming off losses with Sandhagen defeated by a 17-0 Umar Nurmagomedov in August.
With Merab Dvalishvili vs. Sean O’Malley up next for the bantamweight belt at UFC 316 in June, Sandhagen is doing all he can for a title shot, which includes taking his fight promotion up a notch.

Cory Sandhagen asked ChatGPT to prep for Deiveson Figueiredo
Perhaps not as colorful or marketable as flashy rival O’Malley, Sandhagen’s letting AI do his talking ahead of his fight with Figueiredo.
“I’m not really much of a trash talker,” Sandhagen explained on his YouTube channel.
“So, I kinda need to use modern day technology in order to help me be prepared for all of the trash talking that might go on this week.
“ChatGPT helps me write these: ‘Figueiredo fights like a guy who knows his prime ended the night [Brandon] Moreno took his soul…’
“Pretty mean, ChatGPT,” Sandhagen said.
ChatGPT says Deiveson Figueiredo’s ‘skills are stuck in the prelims’
Prior to back-to-back title fights with Brandon Moreno, Figueiredo had finished his last four fights in violent fashion.
Figueiredo lost twice to Moreno across their rare quadrilogy before moving up to the bantamweight division where he went 3-0 before falling to former champ Petr Yan.
Still a force to be reckoned with, ‘Deus da Guerra’ is nearing the end of his career at 37 years old.
“He walks around like he’s still champ, but every fight lately looks like a retirement audition,” Sandhagen read from his phone.
“Didn’t know he had to audition for retirement…
“‘His ego’s still in the title picture, but his skills are stuck in the prelims.’
“I didn’t make this up, this is ChatGPT saying all this mean stuff,” Sandhagen added.
“But definitely gonna have these ready. Just in case I gotta hit them with some one-liners.
Sandhagen continued.
“Who’s smarter than the AI robots that are controlling our lives now?”
Considering a language barrier and no Thursday night press conference this week, we’re probably not going to see much trash talk between Cory Sandhagen and Deiveson Figueiredo, who tend to do their talking in the Octagon.
Though, who knows? Deiveson Figueiredo has taken shots at opponents before, going after Brandon Moreno and Cody Garbrandt.
