The Fighting Nerds are no longer undefeated in the UFC, bringing their impressive 19 fight streak to an end.
This past Saturday at UFC Kansas City, Carlos Prates suffered his first loss in the UFC after Ian Machado Garry narrowly edged a unanimous decision win in the main event.
Just a day removed from his loss, Prates broke his silence with a post on social media, apologising to his fans for his performance.
A few days before their huge fight, Prates was caught smoking cigarettes outside of the UFC fighter hotel, and former UFC star Josh Thompson suggested that Prates’ smoking habits caused his loss.

Fighting Nerds react to losing their undefeated UFC record
The welterweight star is part of the soaring Fighting Nerds team, including Caio Borralho, Jean Silva, and Mauricio Ruffy and up until this point, there wasn’t a single blemish on any of their UFC records.
With the whole team undefeated in the premier promotion, they were benefitting from a lot of support from the fans, with almost all of them being highlighted as potential future UFC champions.
Unfortunately, though, ‘The Nightmare’s’ loss on Saturday night brought an end to the teams incredible run, with them now 19-1 in the UFC.
“I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the love that you guys come to our team and to everybody, to Carlos, to everybody,” Borralho reacted on his Instagram story.
“Carlos is good, we take this loss as a man and we know that we always grew up after a hard loss like that. And I think we’re going to go back, we’re going to do what we do best, that is study this game, and we’re going to come back better.
“I think Carlos is going to come back stronger, way better than he was today, but congrats to Ian, congrats to Chute Boxe, maximum respect for you guys,” Borralho continued.
“F— it, we are a family and we will be champions together, and we will get through this together. And those of you who are already criticizing, go f— yourself! I AM the nightmare EVEN IN ANOTHER LIFE,” Silva reacted.
What’s next for Carlos Prates following first UFC loss?
After missing out on entering the top 10 of the welterweight division, the Brazilian will go back to the drawing board and figure out who he will fight next.
The fight that seems to make the most sense following his loss, is that his fight against Geoff Neal gets rebooked for whenever Neal is able to return to the Octagon.
‘Handz Of Steel’ is currently ranked number 10 in the division, so it would still give the Brazilian chance to enter the top 10 if he was able to rebound with a win.
