Fans slam ‘worst ref in the game’ after he makes same mistake twice at UFC Kansas City

UFC veteran referee Dan Miragliotta has come under the microscope at UFC Kansas City this Saturday, for making the same mistake in two separate fights.

This Saturday, the premier promotion returned to Kansas City for the first time in two years with a stacked Fight Night event headlined by Ian Machado Garry and Carlos Prates.

The UFC Kansas City undercard included some incredible fights, a blockbuster knockout by Timmy Cuamba, who saved his UFC career, and a scintillating debut from Malcolm Wellmaker, who knocked out Dricus Du Plessis’ teammate.

However, several times throughout the prelim portion of the card, the officials faced criticism for making the exact same mistake in two separate fights.

Dan Miragliotta makes the same shocking mistake in two separate fights

Bad officiating is something that unfortunately plagues the sport of MMA, and UFC referee Mike Beltran was recently called out by Joe Rogan for his officiating during UFC 314.

This time, though, it was fellow veteran referee Dan Miragliotta who was under the microscope at UFC Kansas City, as he now faces criticism from the fanbase.

In the third fight of the night between Polyana Viana and Jaqueline Amorim, Miragliotta called a stop to round one as the 10-second signal was sounded, as he mistook it for the end of round klaxon.

Miragoliotta was given the benefit of the doubt, as sometimes, the end of round klaxon has a different sound, especially at events that have taken place in the Middle East.

Amorim went on to score her third submission win in a row, handing Viana her third loss in a row, leaving her future in the UFC in doubt.

However, fans turned on Miragliotta as a few fights later, when Matt Schnell took on Jimmy Flick, he made the exact same mistake just before the end of round two, attempting to break the fighters up after once again mistaking the 10-second signal for the end of round klaxon.

Fans turn on Dan Miragliotta following several mistakes

“Do not let Dan Miragliotta ref the main event! He’s gone senile and can’t hear s—,” One fan commented.

Last year, Miragliotta was urged to retire by fans after he officiated Francis Ngannou’s comeback fight in MMA, with a large majority of the fanbase believing that he stopped the fight way too late.

“Dan Miragliotta might need to invest in some hearing aids because the 10-second clapper doesn’t sound at all like the horn,” A second fan reacted.

“What is wrong with Dan Miragliotta? Is he high on drugs?” A third fan questioned.

“Dan Miragliotta had a few early step-ins tonight, those 10-second claps are getting too realistic! Might be time for a quick eye and ear check, big man,” another fan reacted.
