The UFC heavyweight title saga between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall continues, and fans could be left devastated with a recent update.
Following continuous delays from Jones, it seemed as though UFC fans would never get the heavyweight title unification fight between ‘Bones’ and Tom Aspinall.
Despite that, though, Aspinall provided a positive update earlier this week, stating that he has been ‘sworn to secrecy’ but now knows exactly what is going on.
Not long after, UFC legend Chael Sonnen claimed that the fight between Jones and Aspinall had officially been agreed and had been set a date, exciting the fanbase.

Sonnen backtracks on recent claim with ‘breaking news’
Although the UFC Hall of Famer recently claimed that Jones vs Aspinall is a done deal and has a date, Sonnen has now backtracked on his claim with a pretty damning statement.
“You guys probably haven’t heard this, you’re probably getting this right from me,” Sonnen said in a recent video on his YouTube channel.
“The current plan right now is Tom Aspinall vs Ciryl Gane, are you ready, for the interim championship.
“Now, I will back the moves with full integrity in place because our overarching theme… Is we fiercely adhere to the rules that we make up as we go, so I’m on board. I like anything that ends in world championship, but that’s a pretty hard sell,” Sonnen continued.
Aspinall has made it clear on several occasions that he isn’t chasing Jones the name, he is simply chasing the undisputed title and will only fight again if it is for the undisputed title, making Sonnen’s claim shocking.
Ciryl Gane picked up an extremely controversial win last time out against Alexander Volkov at UFC 310, which even Dana White disputed, again, making Sonnen’s claim questionable.
Aspinall and Gane have been linked to fight before
This isn’t the first instance in which Aspinall and Gane have been linked to fight each other.
After Aspinall suffered a devastating injury the first time around against Curtis Blaydes, he was looking for opponents to return against, and he highlighted ‘Bon Gamin’ as one of them.
Despite that, Gane rejected Aspinall’s fight offer, claiming that he wasn’t going to fight back in the rankings. Of course, the Brit went on to win the interim title, which led to Gane claiming he would now like to fight Aspinall.
