Dana White bizarrely compared 6-1 UFC star to one of the greatest fighters of all time

Dana White strangely compared a former UFC star to Demetrious Johnson.

In his esteemed career, the businessman has watched many a prospect blossom into an all-time great.

With this in mind, he always gets behind the fighters he believes are capable of becoming enormous superstars.

However, on this occasion, the athlete he put in the same conversation with ‘Mighty Mouse’, didn’t live up to the hype.

Dana White compared Paige Van Zant to Demetrious Johnson

On September 5, 2015, at UFC 191, inside the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, Paige Van Zant submitted Alex Chambers via armbar, to move to 6-1.

This massively impressed Dana White, who waxed lyrical about her skill set during the post-fight press conference.

The president of the world’s premier mixed martial arts promotion even went as far as to compare the mixed martial artist to Demetrious Johnson.

He enthused: ”She has all the attributes of a little rock star, man, she’s got great personality, she’s absolutely relentless when she fights. She moves forward, she puts Mighty Mouse-type pressure on fighters, and yesterday she was the most searched fighter on ufc.com; people love her.

“All of her sponsors were all sitting around cageside with their phones out, filming her when she walked out. She’s got it, man. She’s got to put in the hard work and keep her head together.”

Sadly, despite all his praise, the striker never quite lived up to the billing, going 2-4, in her next six fights.

However, Van Zant has continued to impress White with her performances in Power Slap.

Dana White reveals the massive amount of money the UFC wants its next broadcasting partner to pay

By the looks of things, at least in the UFC, the Van Zant era is over, and it appears the ESPN chapter of the company’s story could also be reaching its conclusion.

As of tomorrow, the organization is free to explore its options, with several networks likely in the running to secure the broadcasting rights.

However, it’s fair to say the product won’t come cheap.

Now, White has revealed how much the UFC wants a broadcasting partner to pay.
