Fighter Dana White rejected twice sets unwanted UFC record in ‘dud’ debut win

Dana White will still feel like he got it right after being proven wrong at UFC Vegas 105.

The UFC boss famously rejected Torrez Finney twice following wins on the Contender Series.

Dana White bluntly predicted that the 11-0 middleweight would get ‘decimated’ in MMA’s premier promotion before finally signing him after a third win on the UFC’s talent scouting show.

However, he may be regretting that decision after Finney’s dreadfully dull debut at UFC Vegas 105.

Torrez Finney sets unwanted UFC record

Finney proved White wrong by dominating Robert Valentin with his wrestling on Saturday night.

The 26-year-old scored 8 takedowns out of a whopping 17 attempts and racked up 13 minutes of control time.

Ultimately, he walked away with a split decision win that was historic due to his lack of striking offense.

Finney landed just 4 significant strikes during his first 15 minutes inside the UFC Octagon, which is the fewest by any decision winner in middleweight history.

Torrez Finney admits UFC debut was a ‘dud’

Finney admitted that he was gun-shy during his UFC debut, but he didn’t know why that was.

“I don’t know what it was that was holding me back,” he said during his post-fight press conference.

“A mental block? Confidence? But, man, there was so much left to be desired in there for myself.

“I would say it’s a weird performance. That was a dud in my honest opinion. It happens.

“This is the best I felt going into a fight, it was just a dud.

“Heck, I felt way worse than this going into a fight, and I’ve had incredible performances.

“So, it just be the night sometimes. Tonight was one of those nights.
