Raul Rosas Jr’s bizarre ‘Chiwiws’ catchphrase has captured the imagination of viewers after his big UFC wins, and is now a fan favorite.
While he hasn’t quite reached the status of Alex Pereira’s ‘Chama’ just yet, fans can’t get enough of the bizarre phrase that he debuted last summer. In his post-fight interview with Paul Felder after his win over Ricky Turcios, Rosas took to the mic and made a strange noise, which he later revealed to be ‘Chiwiwis’.
It has since become a viral meme, and he continues to start post-fight interviews with the phrase. Should he get a victory in his homecoming tonight at UFC Mexico City agaist Vince Morales, it is undeniable he will be repeating it again.
What is Raul Rosas Jr saying after fights?
Raul Rosas Jr went viral on social media when he began to shout out his friends in post-fight interviews by using a phrase they use in private conversations. Fans were not sure what exactly he was saying, but he has since popularised the word ‘Chiwiwis’, which he says has an interesting backstory.
“A really close friend of mine, who’s basically like a brother to me, we spend a lot of time together, he would say it all the time, and it stuck with me,” Rosas told MMA Junkie last year. “It really got off when I had a training camp in Centro Ceremonial Otomí.
“It’s on a mountain, and there’s no service, so all you can do is train and play ping pong and things like that to pass time. So whenever he’d beat us at a game he’d go, ‘Chiwiwis,’ or whenever we’d be messing around. It just stuck.
“After my fight, I didn’t even have it planned or anything. I had won, and I was very happy with everything that went down, and it just came out and people loved it.”
Raul Rosas Jr is youngest fighter in UFC history
Fans were first exposed to Raul Rosas Jr when he appeared on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2022 before he had even turned 18. He got through Mando Gutierrez and earned a contract, which has led to an exciting few years in the promotion.
“There was nothing to even discuss. We didn’t even talk about it back there,” Dana White told the press after watching the youngster. “I’ve never seen anything like it… He’s absolutely positively talented, he’s special, he’s different. At 17 years old, you just don’t see kids that age handle themselves like that.”

Rosas won his debut under the UFC banner against Jay Perrin with a bonus-winning first round submission. However, his momentum was stalled at UFC 287 when fellow youngster Christian Rodriguez overpowered him to take the unanimous decision.
He didn’t let that keep him down, however, and returned with back-to-back bonus wins over Ricky Turcios and Terrence Mitchell. He defeated Aoriqileng at UFC 306 and now gets a big homecoming at UFC Mexico City against Vince Morales.
