UFC star cries uncontrollably for heartbreaking reason after first-round submission win

Édgar Cháirez got extremely emotional after picking up a sensational win on Saturday night.

UFC Mexico City started with an ‘absolute robbery‘ before we saw a rare blooper from Bruce Buffer.

Things turned around when Loopy Godinez made Daniel Cormier go crazy by pulling off a powerbomb during her fight before Raul Rosas Jr won and broke a record set by Vitor Belfort in 1998, six years before the bantamweight prospect was born.

It was a night of wild moments, but none of them were more heartwrenching than Édgar Cháirez‘s reaction to beating CJ Vergara.

Édgar Cháirez shares heartbreaking reason for UFC Mexico tears

Cháirez dropped and tapped out his opponent after just 2:30 of round one on Saturday night.

Post-fight, the 29-year-old fell to his knees and began hysterically crying on the ground.

It was initially unclear exactly what he was so emotional about, but then he spoke to Daniel Cormier.

‘Puro Chicali’ dedicated the win to his late grandfather, who helped fund a career-saving surgery.

“About a year ago, I didn’t have the money to get surgery, and I couldn’t do anything,” Cháirez said through a translator as he broke down in tears again.

“My grandpa, who was also a father to me, he sold his truck to pay for the surgery. That’s the reason why I’m here!

“Last year, he was right here. This year, he was not. But I know he’s in the first row in heaven watching me tonight.”

Fans react to Édgar Cháirez’s emotional interview

UFC fans were quick to take to social media with their reactions to Cháirez’s emotional display.

“Goosebumps,” one fan wrote. While another added: “I’m not supposed to cry after a fight man.”

“Yo Dana White give that man 100 Gs! Never seen so much emotion in the Octagon,” a third person tweeted.

“Could make a grown man cry,” someone else commented.

“I was annoyed by the crying till I heard the story,” a fifth fan wrote.

“Heart touching story, Great W,” this X user added.
