UFC Mexico City weigh-in drama sees commission questioned amid multiple scale controversies

With UFC Mexico City set to go down on Saturday night, the fighters took part in their pre-fight weigh-ins this Friday.

Former UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno is scheduled to headline the event when he takes on recent title challenger Steve Erceg in the main event.

Also on the UFC Mexico City card is home-born star Raul Rosas Jr, who looks to claim another UFC record after becoming the youngest fighter to ever fight in the promotion.

Fortunately for the fans, ‘The Assassin Baby’ and Erceg both made weight ahead of their main event, as Moreno looks to earn another shot at the 125lb title.

UFC Mexico City star questions commission following weight miss

Although the main eventees avoided controversy with their early weigh-ins, not everything was as cut and dry as their walk to the scale.

The Ultimate Fighter alum Austin Hubbard is scheduled to take on Marquel Mederos on the prelims, with Hubbard hoping to return to the win column by putting a stop to Mederos’ win streak.

Mederos hit the scale at 156lbs, holding his end of the bargain, however, there was some controversy when Hubbard stepped onto the scale later in the day.

Initially, after stepping onto the scale, the commission member reading out the results claimed that Hubbard weighed in at 157lbs, thus missing the limit by 1lb.

However, Hubbard immediately questioned the commission member, claiming that before he weighed in on the official scale, he weighed 155lbs using the test scale backstage.

Following Hubbard’s complaint to Marc Ratner, the UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, Ratner called for the box to be brought to the stage.

‘Thud’ Hubbard then weighed 156lbs on his second attempt.

Ronaldo ‘Lazy Boy’ Rodriguez misses weight for UFC Mexico City fight

That wasn’t the only controversy to happen during the weigh-ins, as one of the brightest prospects in the promotion, Ronaldo ‘Lazy Boy’ Rodriguez, also missed weight for his scheduled fight.

The 25-year-old picked up the biggest win of his career thus far when he picked up a unanimous decision win over Ode Osbourne at UFC 306 last September.

Rodriguez is scheduled to take on Kevin Borjas, and ahead of their fight, he missed weight at 157lbs and opted not to cut any further weight.

Fortunately, the fight is still on, and Rodriguez will forfeit 20% of his purse to Borjas.
