Brandon Moreno’s fellow flyweight contender Edgar Chairez believes he will defy the odds and win at the fourth time of asking against Alexandre Pantoja.
The two-time champion is currently preparing to face Steve Erceg in the main event of UFC Mexico City on Saturday night. Meanwhile, OnlyFans creator Chairez is facing a stiff test of his own against CJ Vergara on the undercard.
And the Mexican starlet reckons that the seemingly never-ending reign of Pantoja will be finished by Moreno for an historic third title win. This is despite the two-time champion having three attempts at the Brazilian over the years; twice in the UFC and once on The Ultimate Fighter in a two-rounder.
Edgar Chairez backs Brandon Moreno to dethrone Alexandre Pantoja in rare fourth fight
It does appear lately that nobody is ever going to wrestle the flyweight world title from Alexandre Pantoja. Erceg was offered a shot at the belt despite being ranked at number eight, and the UFC even had to look to Rizin for Kai Asakura last time out at UFC 310.
However, Edgar Chairez had told Bloody Elbow in an exclusive chat that he believes Brandon Moreno will eventually become an undeniable contender and take the belt. Pantoja is currently expected to face Kai Kara-France next, with Manel Kape also a top challenger.
“Brandon Moreno is the best fighter in the world,” Chairez said in English, opting against using the translator who had accompanied him throughout the interview. “Yes, he will be champion again this year.
“Pantoja is still [the best flyweight in the world], and he will beat Kara France. But Brandon will beat Pantoja this year for sure. The other fight is very close, but I say bring Brandon!”
Edgar Chairez would never fight Brandon Moreno for world title
As for Chairez’s own interests in the title, he knows that there is no amount of money he could be offered that would make him want to fight Moreno. The pair are close friends, and he has even bought tickets to be guaranteed re-admittance to watch his pal in the main event on Saturday night.
“I will be participating and then I have bought my tickets so I can re-enter the arena and support these fighters and my friend Brandon Moreno who is going to be participating,” he explained. “Being there to support the sport is humbling.
“I would never fight him, it’s probably not worth it. Not even the most amount of money would make me want to fight somebody who has been a supporter of my work and who motivates me to do what I do every day.”
