At UFC London on Saturday, Tom Aspinall’s teammate, Mick Parkin suffered the first defeat of his career after slightly controversial scoring.
When the UFC touches down in London, Tom Aspinall is usually a guaranteed fixture on the card, however this time round, he wasn’t included.
And that is because the interim heavyweight champion continues to wait for a title unification fight against Jon Jones, with the bout still in negotiations.
Despite that, Aspinall was in attendance at the O2 Arena as his undefeated teammate, Mick Parkin took on Marcin Tybura in the biggest fight of his career thus far.

Tom Aspinall’s stunned reaction hearing the Parkin vs Tybura result
Unfortunately, the UFC London card featured several controversial judging decisions with the heavyweight fight being one of them.
The first round between Parkin and Tybura was a close one, however, in round two, Parkin seemingly picked up the pressure and even came close to finishing the veteran.
Again, the third round was a relatively close one, however, the majority of the UFC fanbase believe Parkin did enough to edge it.
Sat on the front row watching the fight, Aspinall provided a stunned reaction when the result was read out by Bruce Buffer, claiming that Parkin did enough to win either three rounds to none or won two of the rounds.
“I think he’s won it, I think he’s won it two rounds to one if not all three, I think maybe he lost the first but he got the second two though,” Aspinall began to explain immediately after the fight.
“Oh no, man. I thought Mick won. I thought Mick won it. That’s MMA, I don’t know, I thought Mick won it,” a stunned Aspinall reacted once Buffer read out the result.
Shortly after, the interim champ went backstage to link up with his teammate and get his immediate thoughts on the fight.
“I thought you won it but maybe I’m biased,” Aspinall told Parkin.
“Yeah I did but it’s experience, isn’t it?” Parkin replied.
“I think you did really well, this was a f—— massive step up, absolutely no joke… I think you did really good, he’s no joke that guy.
“When I heard it was a unanimous decision 29-28 I was like, ‘Oh Mick all day’, I was like, there’s no chance that it can’t (be a Parkin win),” Aspinall continued.
Aspinall left gutted by Leon Edwards’ loss to Sean Brady
Although Aspinall isn’t teammate with Leon Edwards, the two Brits experienced their rise to the top at similar times and shared the UFC 304 event in Manchester together, becoming good friends.
Unfortunately for the British crowd, Edwards was dominated by Sean Brady in the main event, subsequently losing in the fourth round by submission.
Along with the O2 crowd who began flooding out of the arena early, Aspinall was left gutted by Edwards’ second loss in a row.
“Domination from Sean Brady, gutted for Leon, gutted for him. The whole place is going, look everyone’s leaving. Feel like leaving myself,” Aspinall reacted to Leon’s loss.
