Robbie Lawler breathes life into comeback hopes one week after UFC Hall of Fame announcement

A surprising entry has been added to the UFC’s test history following a recent update to the statistics on March 14.

At UFC 313, an emotional Robbie Lawler was announced to be entering the promotion’s Hall of Fame later this year in the modern wing.

The former welterweight champion has already received this recognition once before when Lawler’s incredible war with Rory MacDonald was inducted into the fight wing in 2023.

Fellow fighters and legends reacted to the news with admiration and stories of Lawler in one of the most heart-warming moments in recent MMA history.

However, there are initial signs that one of the sport’s most entertaining fighters of all time might be dipping his toe back into the water after leaving the sport on a high two years ago.

Robbie Lawler gets listed on the UFC’s test history for 2025 in new update

After 15 fights inside the Octagon, Robbie Lawler announced his retirement in July of 2023, ending his career with an overall record of 30-16.

His legacy was assured many years ago despite the fact that he was still competitive at a good level until the very end.

Lawler may have only won 3 of the 8 fights that he had after losing the welterweight title in 2016 but it was only right at the final few outings that he stopped competing against top contenders at 170-pounds.

The UFC’s Anti-Doping website allows anyone to access the data that they have accumulated throughout 2025 thus far.

With a simple search, you can see which fighters have been tested this year and how many times with regular updates being made to the list.

Having been updated on March 14, a new entry was added under the name Robert Lawler, showing that he has been tested once in 2025.

Lawler has not said or shared anything to imply that he is making a return anytime soon but it might be worth keeping an eye on this space just in case ‘The Ruthless One’ starts to rethink his decision in order to come back for one last dance.

Robbie Lawler already had the perfect send off

Robbie Lawler achieved a storybook career that peaked when he returned to the UFC in 2013 and climbed all the way to the welterweight title.

He deserves to do whatever he wants with that legacy but he’s also one of the rare instances of a great fighter going out on his own terms.

Lawler’s emotional walkout, 38-second finish of Niko Price and subsequent interview at UFC 290 was a beautiful final chapter in his career.

It’s not uncommon for fighters to go back on their retirement plans, not in the slightest, but few are able to ride off into the sunset in graceful fashion quite like he did in 2023.
