UFC Vegas 104 has not been a good night for undefeated prospects as yet another lost their 0 by first round stoppage.
Josias Musasa entered the octagon having won his way into the UFC with a split decision win against Otari Tanzilovi on Dana White’s Contender Series last October. He was named the biggest favorite of the Apex’s latest card as he took on The Ultimate Fighter veteran Carlos Vera.
However, it didn’t go to plan and within just three minutes and 16 seconds of his debut he had been dropped and submitted by his rival.

Josias Musasa submitted within a round by Carlos Vera
Heading into tonight’s event at the UFC Apex, Josias Musasa was made a massive favorite against 37-year-old Carlos Vera. The undefeated Congolese prospect is 11 years Vera’s junior, and has impressed in regional bouts after a minimal amateur career.

Unfortunately, he found himself taking on a brand new level of challenge against Vera, who was famously part of Conor McGregor’s 2023 bantamweight The Ultimate Fighter team. Despite his age and the fact he had yet to win a UFC fight, Vera is a wiley veteran of the game with an under-estimated skillset.
And he showed that off as he put down Musasa with a head kick while on the move and almost instantly took the back to lock in a rear naked choke. Musasa was able to battle the hands for a few seconds but ended up submitting and losing his 8-0 record.
Fans claims Josias Musasa is latest UFC ‘fraud check’ after submission defeat
After the fact, fans were ruthless in their assessments of Musasa’s defeat. Viewers and in particular bettors in the MMA scene have become addicted to the phrase ‘fraud check’, using it for almost any debuting or unbeaten young fighter who is defeated.
Musasa was the latest victim of such an instance, following on from Yuneisy Duben who was KO’d within two minutes by Carli Judice in the opening fight of the night. And X users were ruthless, with one showing off the betting odds with the caption: “Let’s goooo I had a feeling fraud check was coming!”
The phrase became a regular in discussion of the fight online, with another fan adding: “Carlos Vera with the huge fraud check on Josias Musasa!! Awesome.”
