Chael Sonnen thinks Georges St-Pierre would’ve defeated Khabib Nurmagomedov
A match-up between Georges St-Pierre and Khabib Nurmagomedov would’ve pitted two of the best mixed martial artists to have ever walked the face of the Earth, against one another, in an almighty clash.
The fact that it never happened still leaves some MMA enthusiasts with sleepless nights, including Chael Sonnen, who’s confident ‘GSP’ would’ve had the edge.
In an episode of Fight Back, with Jake Shields, ‘The American Gangster’, said: “That’s a fantasy. If they would’ve wrestled, I wouldn’t have cared if they arm-wrestled, if they had some kind of conflict, and then conflict resolution, it would be very helpful.
“I’ve rolled with Georges. I think Georges would’ve beat him.”
The host responded: “I’ve trained with them both. I don’t want to share my opinions, but I think that’s a good guess.”
Discussing his time with Nurmagomedov, Shields added: “He’s obviously really good, but Georges just has that explosion. I don’t know, tough fight.”
Georges St-Pierre explains why he turned down Nate Diaz fight
Nurmagomedov isn’t the only big fight St-Pierre missed out on, with the legend once contemplating an offer to take on Nate Diaz.
While not necessarily as compelling as a showdown with the Russian, a clash with the Stockton brawler still would’ve garnered massive attention from the casual fans.
However, after much consideration, the UFC Hall of Famer made the tough call to say no.
Now, St-Pierre has explained why he didn’t want to fight Diaz.
