Khabib Nurmagomedov has sent a congratulatory message to the new UFC light heavyweight champion.
Magomed Ankalaev outpointed Alex Pereira over five rounds to take his title at UFC 313 on Saturday night.
All three cageside judges had the fight in his favor, with 49–46, 48–47, 48–47 scorecards.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is arguably the most successful and dominant Russian fighter of all time.
‘The Eagle’ was delighted to see one of his compatriots follow in his footsteps by winning gold at UFC 313.
“Congratulations Brother, Magomed Ankalaev,” Nurmagomedov tweeted after the result was confirmed.
“You made a history. It was amazing performance against very tough opponent.”

After getting the UFC belt wrapped around his waist by Dana White, Ankalaev spoke with Joe Rogan.
“I can’t even put it into words,” he said.
“It’s been such a long way, and here is my dream, it’s on my waist.
Ankalaev added: “I don’t think anything surprised me.
“I think I could’ve done a better job in the fight, but something just wasn’t working out.
“Anyway, I’m really happy that I won.”
