UFC 313 prelim fight to make UFC history as young flyweight prospects clash

UFC 313 on Saturday night is set to be a monumental event with Alex Pereira defending his title for a fourth time and there is a prelim fight that will be etched into UFC history.

On Saturday night from the T-Mobile Arena, Alex Pereira looks to break Jon Jones’ record for the least amount of days between four title defenses when he takes on Magomed Ankalaev.

In the co-main event, your favorite fighter’s favorite fighter, Justin Gaethje takes on Rafael Fiziev in a spectacular rematch of their 2023 war, that could have title implications at lightweight.

Opening up the main card is budding UFC star, Mauricio Ruffy who represents the soaring Fighting Nerds as he looks to earn the biggest win of his career thus far, taking on Bobby Green.

UFC 313 prelim fight set to make UFC history

Despite the blockbuster main card, a flyweight fight between Joshua Van and Rei Tsuruya will make UFC history.

This will be the first fight in UFC history with both fighters being born in the 2000s, as Van comes in at 23 years old with his opponent, Tsuruya coming in at 22 years old.

‘The Fearless’ Van will also be the first fighter to carry the Burmese flag to the Octagon as he continues to represent Myanmar in the premier promotion, looking to make it three wins in a row.

The Japanese, Tsuruya, on the other hand, is looking to continue his undefeated run in what is just his second fight inside the Octagon since winning a contract on Road to the UFC.

The 22-year-old is hoping for a quick rise up the rankings, similar to his compatriot, Tatsuro Taira, who currently finds himself ranked fifth in the division.

What could be next for Alex Pereira following UFC 313?

Since joining the UFC, ‘Poatan’ has undoubtedly become the promotion’s biggest star and with a win over the Russian contender, he will guarantee himself as one of the best fighters ever.

However, Pereira’s story will likely continue after UFC 313 as rumors continue to circulate that Pereira could move up to heavyweight to attempt to become the first fighter to win a title in three different weight classes.

The potential of that happening was backed by UFC boss, Dana White, who stated earlier this week that Pereira could fight the winner of Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall later this year.
