UFC 313 is finally upon us as Magomed Ankalaev gets his long-awaited shot at light-heavyweight gold in Las Vegas.
Alex Pereira has been on the run of a lifetime with the 205lb belt, and is defending his title for an unheard of fourth time in just 11 months. He returns to the scene of two of his great triumphs last year at the T-Mobile Arena, where he knocked out Jamahal Hill and Jiri Prochazka at UFC 300 and UFC 303.

However, he faces a much different test today as he takes on renowned grappler Ankalaev. The champion is known for his concussive knockout power that won him kickboxing titles before he made the switch to MMA, but now has to deal with a Dagestani wrestling style.

Elsewhere on the card, there is guaranteed excitement in the co-main event as ‘Fight of the Night’ regulars Justin Gaethje and Rafael Fiziev revisit their London clash from two years ago. ‘The Highlight’ was due to face Dan Hooker, but an injury saw him replaced by Fiziev for a second effort.
There are a number of other fascinating fights including King Green’s return against Mauricio Ruffy and Alex Morono vs Carlos Leal.
Alex Pereira speaks
That’s a tough interview as he tells Joe Rogan he may need to take some time after four fights in just 11 months. Heartbreak for ‘Poatan’.

Poatan’s championship reign comes to an end as Magomed Ankalaev outscores him across the board to win the belt! 48-47 x 2 and 49-46 on one scorecard. Boos rain down at the T-Mobile Arena as he declares his plan worked.
[Link]Alex Pereira vs Magomed Ankalaev – Round 5
Pereira putting on some pressure early on, but he takes a big right hand to start the round. Generally pretty close on the feet but BIG HEADKICK FOR PEREIRA HALFWAY THROUGH THE ROUND. Must continue to work that pressure. Ankalaev gets him against the cage to finish the round. Is it enough to win the belt?
[Link]Alex Pereira vs Magomed Ankalaev – Round 4
Seconds into the fourth Ankalaev shoots in and gets to the body of Pereira, good defensive grappling from the champion. For about half a second ‘Poatan’ gets free, but it doesn’t last all that long. After almost three minutes against the cage, Marc Goddard separates them. Interesting call as Ankalaev was doing what seemed to be just enough movement and punching. We almost immediately end up in the same situation again. Pereira is in some big trouble now, he might be 3-1 down heading into the final round.

The impressive striking from that second round continues for the challenger this time. He’s walking down Pereira, he doesn’t seem all too concerned about arguably the biggest puncher in the world coming towards him! Pereira reminds him with a combination that this is not the game plan you want to impose. The leg kicks still working for the champion. We head to the championship rounds!

Ankalaev and his team are not too happy with the kicks he took in the first. He’s switching stances already early. Much more action this round as they both hurt one another’s legs. Pereira eventually goes for his big attack and is immediately reminded that Ankalaev has power of his own in his hands. This is a much closer striking match than was expected. Huge left hand at the end of the round scores for the challenger, this is not great for Pereira! 1-1 on my scorecard.
[Link]Alex Pereira vs Magomed Ankalaev – Round 1
Marc Goddard gets us underway after typically aggressive introductions from Bruce Buffer! Five leg kicks within a minute for Pereira in an otherwise tentative start to the round. Ankalaev hits back with a few of his own, but right now we still need a big moment. Decent little striking match here, the Russian is well up for standing with Pereira, but his lead leg is already sore from the kicks. With 30 seconds to go, we finally get the shot and Pereira gets himself against the cage, not down! Solid first round, probably goes for the champion.

Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev both make the walk. It’s time for the biggest fight of the year so far!
[Link]Justin Gaethje defeats Rafael Fiziev again
An emotional comeback moment for Justin Gaethje as he defeats Fiziev once again! He is back after the humiliation of last year! Immediately pays tribute to his challenger.
[Link]Justin Gaethje vs Rafael Fiziev – Round 3
It’s probably 1-1 and both men are fighting like they know that to be an absolute fact. Fiziev is having huge success with the kicks to the body, but Gaethje’s uppercut is landing for him as well. This is an unscoreable round at the halfway point as far as I can see! Gaethje gets into the ascendancy later in the third round and it seems the American may have just about done enough. Nobody would be mad at a trilogy!
[Link]Justin Gaethje vs Rafael Fiziev – Round 2
Within the first minute, Fiziev lands a kick in the nether regions that causes a brief stop in the action. The crowd audibly groan when they see a replay. Gaethje winning the exchanges when they strike with each other. Right hand and a kick from Fiziev does some damage halfway through the round, but Gaethje strikes back in his own right!
Fiziev seems to be hurting Gaethje and figuring him out but then UPPERCUT FLOORS FIZIEV! COULD THIS BE IT? ONLY A MINUTE TO WORK! He’s up, ad they’re back on their feet. These lads deliver again! Into the third we go.
[Link]Justin Gaethje vs Rafael Fiziev – Round 1
Explosive start to the action but not quite the same as their initial meeting all those years ago. Fiziev actually lands two takedowns and takes control of Gaethje, but the American gets up and lands big in the exchanges. As the round comes to an end, it seems Fiziev is cut and struggling with an injury to his foot.

The crowd are raucous in Las Vegas. Monumental moment as the rematch is almost ready.
[Link]Jalin Turner hangs up the gloves
That’s quite the moment. At just 29-years-old, Turner decides his race is ran as he tells his coaches ‘I’m done’. Emotional. Surprising.
[Link]Ignacio Bahamondes submits Jalin Turner by Round 1 triangle
That was not on anybody’s bingo card! Wow! Bahamondes is a grappler it would appear as he pulls guard on to his back and taps out Jalin Turner!

We are underway in a featured lightweight bout which kicks off almost instantly with back-and-forth attacks from both men.

[Link]Brunno Ferreira submits Armen Petrosyan by Round 2 Armbar
Arme Petrosyan seemed to fake a low blow of his own there to get a break, but it’s all for nought as Ferreira gets the fight to the deck and locks in an arm bar submission. Massive win for the Brazilian!

Armen Petrosyan lands multiple low blows and as such has a point taken by referee Mark Smith. Henry Cejudo immediately takes to social media to wish Smith was on his fight back at UFC Seattle!
[Link]CARLOS LEAL KOs ALEX MORONO IN ROUND 1
A standing TKO, Morono instinctively punching with power in his own right, but they had to stop that. Leal was not interested in getting on the ground, he wanted a knockout and he got it!
Alex Morono vs Carlos Leal up next
At 34-years-old and 2-4 in his last six, is this last chance saloon for Alex Morono?
[Link]Mairon Santos defeats Francis Marshall by SD
That’s a controversial one, Joe Rogan doesn’t seem too impressed as Francis Marshall loses for the third time under the UFC banner. One judge appeared to get it right, but two give it to Santos, and Daniel Cormier is not happy at all.
Mairon Santos vs Francis Marshall up next
Featherweight action in our second prelim of the night.
[Link]Ozzy Diaz defeats Djorden Santos by UD
A frightening injury in the first round that left him without vision in one eye couldn’t stop Ozzy Diaz from landing the first win of his UFC career. 29-28 across the board, that brutal last round will have done it for him.
Ozzy Diaz and Djorden Santos throwing bombs here
We are into the third round, but not for lack of massive shots from Ozzy Diaz and Djorden Santos!
[Link]Still no fights
Approaching an hour now from the initially scheduled 3.30pm kick-off. These two fight cancellations have ravaged the card.
