Daniel Cormier reveals Joaquin Buckley almost got the title fight against Belal Muhammad

On May 10, at UFC 315, inside the Bell Center in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Belal Muhammad will attempt to make the next defense of his 170-pound throne against Jack Della Maddalena.

The match-up is an intriguing one, with the Australian withdrawing from his contest against Leon Edwards at UFC London, to fight for the ultimate prize.

However, according to Daniel Cormier, the Perth fighter almost missed out on the shot, with the analyst claiming another MMA star was in the hunt.

During the UFC 313 broadcast, ‘DC’ said: “I heard [Joaquin Buckley] almost got it. I know it wasn’t public, but they said it came very close to Joaquin Buckley being the guy.”

Thus, it goes without saying, that as soon as he spotted the former Glory Kickboxing champion a few days ago, he couldn’t resist engaging the striker in a playful grappling match.
