10-0 prospect ‘fraud checked’ as he loses perfect record in historic UFC 313 fight

Rei Tsuruya suffered the first defeat of his MMA career at UFC 313 on Saturday night.

In the featured prelim, he squared off agaisnt fellow flyweight hopeful Joshua Van over three rounds.

Their fight had historical significance as it was the first in UFC history with both fighters being born in the 2000s.

Tsuruya was the youngest fighter on the UFC 313 card at 22 years old and his opponent was 23 years of age.

Rei Tsuruya suffers first loss

Tsuruya looked seriously one-dimensional throughout his second appearance inside the Octagon.

The Japanese prospect shot for takedowns from the first to the last bell without much success.

It left him with bloody knees as Van easily outpointed him on the feet for a unanimous decision win.

All three cageside judges saw the fight 30-27 in favor of the slightly older man with more UFC experience.

Joe Rogan advised Tsuruya to spend the next year working on his striking skills in Thailand.

Rei Tsuruya fraud checked?

As you can imagine, some MMA fans were less constructive after Tsuruya’s first MMA loss.

One fan said: “Tsuruya didn’t want to be in there.” While another added: “Tsuruya might be the worst fighter on earth.”

“FRAUD CHECK”, a third fan wrote alongside a picture of Tsuruya.

“Rei Tsuruya is still just 22 years old. He has a long and bright career ahead of him. Personally I would recommend plumbing, welding, or bricklaying,” someone else joked.

“Tsuruya is so one dimensional. If they’re booing during a Josh Van fight it says it all,” another fan tweeted.

“Domination,” a sixth fan simply said.
