‘Almost dialled 911’… Colby Covington mocked by fans for avoiding UFC gym run-in with rival

Colby Covington has once again been flamed by the UFC fanbase after a close call at the UFC gym.

It has been three months since we last saw Colby Covington in the UFC Octagon, when he took on Joaquin Buckley in Tampa, Florida.

The former interim welterweight champion was butchered by Buckley who registered the third round finish, handing Covington back-to-back losses.

Since then, ‘Chaos’ has been away from action but has continued with his online presence as he has been streaming regularly on Twitch. His live streams have already caught one awkward interaction he had with Kamaru Usman.

Colby Covington avoids UFC gym run-in with Themba Gorimbo

The 37-year-old was drafted in by UFC legend, Chael Sonnen to be one of his coaches on The Ultimate Fighter, as Sonnen competes against Daniel Cormier.

Whilst out in Vegas for filming, Covington has attempted to stay in fighting shape by utilising the UFC’s facilities in the Performance Institute.

However, as several UFC athletes use the facilities, it was almost guaranteed that Covington would run into one of many fighters that he has beef with.

This past Tuesday during his live stream, Covington narrowly avoided a run-in with his former teammate turned rival, Themba Gorimbo.

The two used to train at the same gym in Florida and Gorimbo has historically spoken Covington’s praises for helping him out. Despite that, Gorimbo claimed that the welterweight star kicked him out of the P.I when he was training for his title fight against Leon Edwards.

“Oh, f— that,” Covington said as he walked around the corner and noticed Gorimbo.

“You saw who was down there? That ungrateful motherf—— who we used to feed. I think we should just go f—— train around him, actually,” Covington said as he continued to walk away.

“Almost dialled 911,” one fan commented.

“LMFAO, bro can’t even walk into a room without scoping it out first,” another fan joked.

“Why is Colby terrified of Themba like he’s Michael Myers,” a fan questioned.

Colby Covington eyeing up International Fight Week return

Despite suffering back-to-back losses, Covington still finds himself in the top 10 of the 170lb rankings with several matchups still left for him.

Covington has had a well-documented ongoing feud with Ian Machado Garry, however, that fight didn’t come to fruition and the Irishman went on to take on Shavkat Rakhmonov.

After Machado Garry suffered his first career loss, Covington attempted to reignite the feud, potentially hoping to get matched up with him next.

And with that, during his stream, Covington revealed that he would like to return to action on International Fight Week for UFC 317.

“I don’t have anything scheduled, I’m coaching the Ultimate Fighter with my buddy, Chael Sonnen, so after the Ultimate Fighter season, hopefully this summer, maybe International Fight Week,” Covington revealed.
