Robert Whittaker called out by popular contender on 16-fight win streak for International Fight Week’s UFC 317

Since his loss to Khamzat Chimaev last October, Robert Whittaker has been out of action, wondering where he fits into the middleweight mix now.

At UFC 308 last October, Robert Whittaker took on Khamzat Chimaev in what was a number one contender fight in the middleweight division.

The former middleweight champion went on to feel the full wrath of ‘Borz’, as Chimaev submitted Whittaker in the first round, crushing his jaw in the process, resulting in a horror injury for Whittaker.

Despite coming off a loss to Chimaev, ‘The Reaper’ is still ranked inside the top 5 of the 185lb rankings and could potentially stay in the title mix with a few bounce back wins.

Robert Whittaker called out by the soaring Caio Borralho for UFC 317

In hopes of getting back into the title mix, Whittaker recently stated he would like to fight Sean Strickland, as Strickland is coming off his second loss to champion, Dricus Du Plessis.

With the middleweight division in somewhat of a transitional period, Strickland is one of the only top fighters that Whittaker is yet to face and it is seemingly a sensible matchup for both.

However, number six ranked contender, Caio Borralho doesn’t agree with Whittaker’s callout of someone ahead of him in the rankings, considering he is coming off a loss.

“Hey, Robert Whittaker, stop calling guys ahead of you in the rankings after you lose a fight bro! Let’s fight UFC 317 June 29 International Fight Week! What do you think?” Borralho stated on X.

“UFC 317 LAS VEGAS! That’s the perfect date, Robert Whittaker, let’s go? But remember, I’ve never lost in Vegas, 6 fights, 6 wins! This is my place!” Borralho continued.

The Brazilian contender recently picked up a grappling win against fellow UFC middleweight, Brendan Allen, whilst he waits for his next call in the UFC.

The 32-year-old is on an extremely impressive seven fight win streak and is one of the main stars of the rising team, ‘The Fighting Nerds’.

How long does Robert Whittaker have left in the UFC?

Despite having been in the UFC since 2012, Whittaker is only 34 years old and seemingly still wants to attempt to reclaim UFC gold before his career is all said and done.

Still ranked inside the top 5, it is likely that ‘The Reaper’ will go on at least one more run for the title, despite coming off a loss to Chimaev.

With a win over Borralho, if that fight is made, Whittaker could showcase that he is still a big threat in the 185lb division and could potentially chase rematches against both Du Plessis and Chimaev, depending on who is the champion at the time.
