UFC superstar Dustin Poirier was the victim of a brutal roast during a comedy show in his hometown.
Dustin Poirier is weeks away from his anticipated UFC retirement fight against a to-be-announced opponent. While Poirier’s rival for his final UFC fight hasn’t been disclosed, the promotion is rumored to be working on a return to New Orleans for Poirier to drop the gloves in his home state.
In the meantime, Poirier is enjoying some leisure as he prepares to make his last walk to the Octagon after a historic career in the cage. After initially teasing retirement following a lightweight title loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, Poirier changed his mind and opened up to one more fight before calling it quits.
While Poirier has hoisted UFC gold during his career, he’s never held a lineal UFC belt. He won the interim UFC lightweight title by outpointing Max Holloway at UFC 236.

Comedian roasts Dustin Poirier for repeated title shortcomings at Louisiana show
Poirier is arguably one of the greatest UFC fighters never to hold a lineal belt. While he’s had multiple chances to win a lineal championship, he’s fallen short against the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov, Charles Oliveira, and Makhachev.
Despite his title shortcomings, Poirier is considered a UFC superstar and a savant in his hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana. His philanthropic work has helped local youth with school supplies and other necessities.
But Poirier’s accomplishments didn’t protect him from getting roasted during a recent Lafayette Comedy Club roast battle show. As Poirier was sitting close to the stage at the show hosted by comedian Brian Moses, comedian Ken Edwards took aim at the UFC standout with a zinger.
“Dustin, I don’t wanna fight ya, actually I ain’t scared of you!” Edwards said. “I know how to take you down, all I’ve gotta do is get behind the title, you’ll never reach me!”
The roast got a positive response from the crowd in attendance, including Poirier. Luckily for Edwards, Poirier wasn’t in a fighting mood in the below clip.
Dustin Poirier ready for ‘last dance’ as UFC career approaches a dramatic conclusion
Poirier, a likely future UFC Hall of Famer, has cemented himself as an all-time great since moving up to lightweight in 2015. He’s defeated the likes of Conor McGregor (twice), Michael Chandler, Anthony Pettis, and Justin Gaethje during his lightweight tenure.
Poirier is targeting several ‘legends’ for his UFC retirement fight later this year. After a potential clash with Paddy Pimblett was briefly proposed, Poirier quickly shut down facing the surging lightweight.
A trilogy with Gaethje is a potential option for Poirier’s last hurrah in the Octagon. Gaethje is set to face Rafael Fiziev at UFC 313 next weekend, and if he comes out of the fight relatively unscathed, the UFC could opt to turn him around for a clash with Poirier.
