‘I keep saying it’… Joe Rogan offers simple solution for eye pokes in the UFC

UFC Seattle was somewhat spoiled by a fight-ending eye poke in the main event.

Henry Cejudo could not continue after taking two fingers in the eye from Song Yadong on Saturday night.

Worrying footage shows the former bantamweight champion telling his corner that he could not see before the fight was waved off after three rounds to give Yadong the biggest win of his career by a technical decision.

Cejudo has called for a rule change and a rematch after an unpunished foul led to his third straight loss.

Joe Rogan’s simple solution for eye pokes

The UFC brought in new gloves last year, but eye pokes continued and fighters complained about them.

They were officially scrapped for good ahead of UFC Vegas 102, which took place on February 15.

Joe Rogan was never confident they were the answer to the eye-poke problem plaguing elite MMA.

The legendary UFC commentator believes there’s a simple solution that would drastically reduce the number of fight-impacting eye pokes.

“I keep saying it, but I feel they should cover those fingertips,” Rogan said on his podcast in September.

“You’ve got to cover the fingers. There’s no reason to not cover the fingers like a bad glove.

“Just have a piece of leather that goes over the fingertips, so you have one thing. It’s not gonna invade your grappling, and it’s not gonna change your striking. It’s not going to change anything.

“This way, at least if you get poked in the eye you are getting a blunt thing, you are not getting something that goes into your eyeball.

“Have them all covered and have a soft-foamed ridge over the top of it. So even if you are getting poked in the eyes, you are not getting an individual thing going deep into your eyeball with an eyeball, which is what you get now. You get f—— fingernails!”

Aljamain Sterling trashes UFC gloves

Cejudo was supported by Michael Bisping, Jim Miller, and a bunch of fans in the aftermath of UFC Seattle.

Aljamain Sterling is an old rival of Cejudo’s, but even he sided with ‘Triple C’ following his latest loss.

The ex-bantamweight champion implored the powers at be to come up with a safer glove design.

“Those stupid effing gloves don’t curve,” Sterling tweeted. Idk why it’s taking so long to change it to something better.”

He added: “They change everything else except the f—— gloves!!! Make it make sense!”
