UFC star fights back tears while being introduced by MMA legend Bruce Buffer

One fighter at UFC Seattle met the intensity of Bruce Buffer by nearly becoming overwhelmed with emotion.

The UFC’s Fight Night event on February 22 featured some impressive highlight finishes but Jean Silva may have taken the top spot.

His first round knockout over Melsik Baghdasaryan caught the eye of the fans inside the Climate Pledge Arena, along with attracting some attention from Bryce Mitchell.

He has already been incredibly impressive since signing with the UFC in 2023 with Silva beating the likes of Drew Dober and Charles Jourdain in the space of two weeks.

His latest outing was another violent display of striking but before the opening bell sounded, he had to fight back his emotions during the introductions.

Jean Silva holds back the tears in Bruce Buffer introduction before receiving a gift

It’s a special moment for any UFC fighter to receive the full Bruce Buffer introduction because the veteran voice of the Octagon has become such an iconic part of the sport.

UFC Seattle wasn’t the first time that Jean Silva has experienced his name being put up in lights by Buffer but for one reason or another, this particular ceremony struck an emotional nerve.

Before he went out there and stopped Baghdasaryan in the opening round to earn a performance of the night bonus, Silva barely managed to keep it together whilst standing chest-to-chest with the announcer.

Following their intense exchange before the fight started, Buffer gave Silva a gift for the featherweight contender to remember that moment by.

Along with taking home his fourth consecutive win inside the Octagon and a bonus, the 28-year-old claimed a trophy in the form of Buffer’s cue card.

What’s next for Jean Silva?

In four UFC fights, Jean Silva has been nothing but all-action having produced a finish each time that he’s stepped inside the Octagon.

Him and his fellow ‘Fighting Nerds’ teammates Carlos Prates and Caio Borralho are absolutely flying right now and Silva has kept that momentum going into 2025.

It’s hard to deny that the Brazilian deserves a step up in opposition next time out and that could and should be against a ranked opponent if the opportunity presents itself.

Bryce Mitchell at #13 is a fight that already sells itself but the winner or loser of Dan Ige vs Sean Woodson at UFC 314 in April could be another option.
