‘For a long time’… Dricus du Plessis slams Brendan Allen for questioning resume leading up to UFC Seattle loss

UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis didn’t forget Brendan Allen’s pre-UFC Seattle jabs after Allen’s co-main loss to Anthony Hernandez.

Brendan Allen‘s revenge attempt against Anthony Hernandez at UFC Seattle fell short of the mark on Saturday. After dropping their first fight in LFA earlier in their careers, Allen struggled to counter Hernandez’s grappling and timely striking, leading to a unanimous decision defeat.

Allen’s loss at UFC Seattle marked the first time he’s lost consecutive fights during his MMA career. Before UFC Seattle, Allen was outpointed by Nassourdine Imavov last September by unanimous decision.

Leading up to UFC Seattle, Allen seemed to downplay Dricus du Plessis‘ accolades, crediting du Plessis’ title reign to fighting the right opponents at the right time.

Dricus du Plessis gets the last laugh after Brendan Allen’s UFC Seattle defeat

“Somehow Dricus just gets it done,” Allen said at last Wednesday’s pre-fight media day. “If you look at his resume on paper, you’re like f— man, this guy’s a stud. But if you really look at it and watch the fights, he fights these guys that have such a great name, but look at the time that he fights them. He’s fighting them kind of when they’re not really motivated or on their way out, or just Father Time is getting them. Whatever the case may be.

“For instance, you see (Adesanya) on someone’s resume and you think of the Izzy at his top and you’re like, ‘Wow, he beat this guy.’ Then you watch the fight and you’re like, ‘This ain’t the Izzy that fought Paulo Costa or anything like that. This ain’t the same guy.’ So I think he just gets them at the best times. The best names at the best times, and it is what it is.” (h/t BJ Penn)

Du Plessis got the last laugh, mocking the middleweight contender on his post-fight Instagram post after Allen pondered what’s next for him after UFC Seattle.

“I don’t know what’s next either, but I can most certainly tell what ain’t next for a very long time,” du Plessis replied.

Du Plessis is fresh off a dominant win over Sean Strickland at UFC 312 earlier this month. A clash with Khamzat Chimaev is the most likely next option for his next title defense.

Dricus du Plessis adds a new chapter to building Brendan Allen beef

This isn’t the first time du Plessis and Allen have traded barbs from afar. After Allen’s loss to Imavov in his previous fight, du Plessis trolled the middleweight contender on social media.

As both du Plessis and Allen rose the middleweight ranks earlier in their careers, they were never matched up, although both parties accuse the other of ‘ducking’ a potential fight booking.

While du Plessis vs. Allen likely won’t come to fruition anytime soon, it’s still an interesting storyline to keep an eye on. If Allen can go on a run in the division, he may present a fresh new contender for du Plessis to defend the belt against.
