Jon Jon reacts to being named best UFC fighter ever by former two-weight champion with GOAT claim

Jon Jones is never shy about telling people he’s the greatest fighter in MMA history.

The UFC heavyweight champion is widely regarded as the GOAT after a Hall of Fame UFC run.

A controversial DQ defeat against Matt Hamill is the only blemish on his incredible 28-1 MMA record.

Even the fighters competing with Jon Jones in the greatest of all-time debate consider him the best of the best.

Jon Jones Georges St-Pierre praise

For many, George St-Pierre is the best fighter that has graced the Octagon after a 26-2 run in MMA.

The former welterweight and middleweight champion avenged the two defeats on his record in sensational style.

St-Pierre beat Michael Bisping, Nick Diaz, Carlos Condit, Johny Hendricks, BJ Penn, Matt Hughes, and Matt Serra during a legendary career that was devoid of the controversies that have consistently popped up for Jones.

The Canadian fan favorite certainly has every right to call himself the GOAT – but he refuses to do so.

“I think it’s hard to find someone better than Jon Jones,” St-Pierre said in March 2024.

“Jon Jones is so good. Jon Jones is extremely talented, but he’s also extremely tough. People have no idea how tough he is. I’ve trained with him. I’ve seen him going through the grind. He’s so freaking tough.

“I remember the fight that he had with Vitor Belfort, I think his arm got dislocated, and he fought even with a dislocated arm. Even one of his fights, his toe was broken.

“Most of the time when you have a guy that is very talented, it doesn’t come with toughness. Jon Jones is the full package. He’s got everything. Elite striker, elite grappler, [and] he’s good everywhere.”

Almost a year later, Jones stumbled across a graphic featuring St-Pierre’s quotes about him.

The 37-year-old shared the post to his Instagram story with a two-word reaction that read: “An honor.”

What’s next for Jon Jones?

St-Pierre’s legacy is set as the 43-year-old has no interest in a comeback after retiring in 2017.

‘Bones’ still has something to prove, with a section of fans suggesting interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall could be the first man to legitimately beat him.

Talks for a massive unification fight began after Jones knocked out Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in November.

Several months later, there’s no official update but UFC boss Dana White has guaranteed Jones vs Aspinall will happen in 2025.

It’s now just a matter of waiting for all parties to come to terms on a deal for the biggest fight of the year.
