‘He watches’… Colby Covington reignites Ian Machado Garry feud by assigning him a new nickname

Controversial UFC welterweight star Colby Covington added a new chapter to his ongoing beef with Ian Machado Garry.

Colby Covington and Ian Machado Garry were expected to clash at UFC 303 last year before fight talks quickly collapsed. Garry, who has repeatedly called out Covington during his UFC career, went on to face and defeat Michael ‘Venom’ Page on the card.

After Garry and Shavkat Rakhmonov squared off in a short-notice bout at UFC 310, Covington denied declining fights with both welterweights, despite Garry insinuating Covington did. Covington went on to face Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa in December, losing by doctor’s stoppage.

Despite the uncertainty of Covington’s UFC future and Garry’s stalled pursuit of the three-time title challenger, Covington continues to poke the Irish star from afar.

During a recent Twitch livestream, Covington responded to a fan’s joke by reigniting his feud with Garry.

“You are completely right! Ian Garry knows a lot about nutritionists,” Covington said. “He watches his nutritionist from the corner, that’s why we call him ‘Corner McGregor’, because he’s in a corner, and a nutritionist is on the bed with his wife!”

Garry called out Covington after a win at UFC 298 last year, in which he defeated Geoff Neal by split decision. As of this writing, Garry hasn’t replied to Covington’s latest taunts, and a timeframe for his next UFC fight remains unclear.

After two title losses to Kamaru Usman and one loss to Leon Edwards, Covington is on the outside looking into the welterweight title picture. But he and UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad have had a heated beef in recent years, and a future fight isn’t completely off the table.

Whenever Covington decides to hang up the gloves, he wants to pursue a run in professional wrestling via WWE. If it becomes a reality, he would be the latest UFC standout to make the transition to professional wrestling, after Ronda Rousey‘s noteworthy WWE stint.

Now that the UFC and WWE are under the same banner, crossovers between the two promotions are possible. But Covington says he has some unfinished business in the UFC welterweight division, and also recently hinted at a potential move to 185lbs.

In the meantime, Covington isn’t wasting any opportunities to mock his rivals, including Garry. But it remains to be seen if their ongoing feud will materialize in a fight booking soon.
