Islam Makhachev could be on the cusp of a super fight with the UFC lightweight champion giving an interesting reaction to Dana White’s comments.

Recently, the president of the world’s premier mixed martial arts promotion teased ‘something special’ for the legend.

The Russian has looked nothing short of brilliant in his recent contests, with Makhachev beating Renato Moicano so brutally at UFC 311 that it convinced even White that he’s the pound-for-pound number one.

And with the 33-year-old’s star power growing, it looks like it might be time to give him a clash that the fans will never forget.

Islam Makhachev says he has an offer from the UFC

Islam Makhachev is the reigning King of the lightweights, with a plethora of contenders from his own division, as well as featherweight and welterweight, keen to take him on.

Currently, the rumor mill is rife with potential paths the icon could go down, with some hopeful he will defend his belt against Ilia Topuria, while others would love to see the grappler move up a weight class and challenge Belal Muhammad.

Regardless of who ends up standing across from him on fight night, it looks like Makhachev’s next trip to the octagon is going to be a big one, with the grappler responding to Dana White claiming ‘something special’ is around the corner.

In an interview with Match TV, he enthused: “I can’t announce it yet, but there is an offer that we need to sit down with the team and think about, because there are options.”

UFC legend says Islam Makhachev is the only man who can stop Ilia Topuria

While we’re yet to discover the identity of Makhachev’s next opponent, a large portion of the MMA community would love it to be Topuria.

After all, this is a man who’s looked seemingly unstoppable, recently rendering both Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway unconscious.

With that in mind, one MMA icon is adamant that the Spanish-Georgian could finish almost anyone from featherweight to welterweight.

However, the future Hall of Famer has explained why Makhachev might be the one man who can stop Topuria’s explosive knockout streak.
