Colby Covington set for new career in different sport in ‘the next year or two’

Colby Covington’s time as an elite-level mixed martial artist is coming to an end.

Of course, that’s obvious to anyone who watched his TKO loss against Joaquin Buckley in December.

Colby Covington has had just six fights since 2019 and he’s suffered four defeats during that period.

Now the 36-year-old is starting to think about life after fighting, which could see him try out a new sport.

Colby Covington eyes WWE career

Covington seems like a natural fit for pro wrestling after turning heel to save his UFC career in 2017.

Today, he’s one of the most divisive fighters on the roster, who is known for his wild trash talk.

‘Chaos’ has an ability on the mic that could help him become a WWE superstar like Ronda Rousey did after leaving behind her MMA career due to suffering a series of concussions.

Covington also has the athletic ability to master all the moves and become the real deal in a wrestling ring.

“I would probably say like two years,” he recently said when a fan asked when he will transition to the WWE.

“I wanna really start working on my in-ring wrestling and my crowd-pleasing ability in the next year or two.

“Maybe I’ll go up to Orlando and go to the WWE training center. But I really want to start perfecting my craft in the WWE with the wrestling moves and hope that I can make a transition in the next year or two.”

What’s next for Colby Covington?

There’s no fight on the horizon right now, but Covington is staying busy and maintaining ties to the UFC.

Chael Sonnen recently revealed Covington will be one of his coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 33.

The MMA legend is set to square off against former dual-weight UFC champion Daniel Cormier for the latest season of the long-running reality TV show designed to find the next combat sports superstar.

After that, Covington will turn his attention back to the 170lb division reigned over by Belal Muhammad.

A fourth title shot seems very unlikely at this stage of his career – but there are still big fights to make.

Covington could settle his feud with Ian Garry in the Octagon after years of back-and-forth trash talk.

Only time will tell who he will be matched up against in what could be his final UFC fight before he makes the move to pro wrestling.
