Who is Adlan Amagov? All you need to know about the ‘spinning back kick guy’ who allegedly dropped Jon Jones

Adlan Amagov has been thrust back into the spotlight almost a decade since his last MMA fight.

Former interim UFC welterweight champion Carlos Condit recently claimed Jon Jones got dropped in sparring by a ‘spinning back kick guy’ who caught the heavyweight king with a clean shot to the liver.

Condit told Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson that the man who dropped ‘Bones’ was called Adlan Amagov – but the UFC legend wasn’t familiar with that name, and neither was the co-host of his popular podcast.

So, we’re guessing a bunch of MMA fans are also unfamiliar with ‘Chechen Van Damme’ who floored the greatest fighter in UFC history.

Who is Adlan Amagov?

Adlan Amagov is a former MMA fighter who retired from the sport with a 14-2-1 record in 2016.

The 38-year-old bounced around the weight classes, competing between welterweight and light heavyweight during his career, which began with a 60-second ezekiel choke defeat to Aleksei Oleinik in November 2007.

Nine wins and one draw in his next 10 fights earned Amagov a call-up to Strikeforce where he knocked out future UFC title contender Anthony Smith inside one round to announce himself to the American audience in November 2011.

The known training partner of Khabib Nurmagomedov suffered his final MMA defeat next time out.

UFC legend Robbie Lawler knocked him out with a flying knee on a January 2012 Strikeforce card.

Amagov bounced back with a TKO win before Strikeforce dissolved and he joined the UFC in 2013.

The Jackson Wink MMA Academy fighter seemed like a potential contender after going 2-0 inside the Octagon against Chris Sprang and TJ Waldburger, who he KO’d so badly a stretcher was needed to carry him backstage.

Amagov never fought in the UFC again. It was reported that he had retired to spend time with his family after growing tired of cutting weight – but then he returned for one final fight three years later at League S-70 – Plotforma 7th.

Just over two minutes was all he needed to catch his opponent, Dirlei Broenstrup, in an armlock submission before he retired for good and left MMA fans wondering how far he could’ve made it in the sport.

What does Adlan Amagov say about Jon Jones sparring?

Amagov publicly discussed the story of him knocking out Jones in training four years ago.

Originally, he didn’t plan to talk about what happened in the gym, but everything changed when Jones traveled to Russia in 2018 and recalled taking a shot to the liver from Amagov during an interview with local media.

Since then, the former UFC fighter has been asked about his sparring session with Jones countless times.

“We have not been in touch with him for a long time. As I retired from Instagram, I no longer keep in touch with him,” Amagov said about Jones in 2021.

“As for how I knocked him out, it was in sparring. Such things are inconvenient to say, they are sparring.

“I didn’t say anything about it to anyone, then he came to Moscow and said it in an interview and everyone started asking me about it… It was sparring. It happens.”
