UFC 312 star breaks silence after scary intensive care stay: ‘I’m out of hospital’

Jack Jenkins has provided a positive health update in the aftermath of his scary UFC 312 loss

The Aussie fan favorite got off to a strong start to his preliminary fight with Brazil’s Gabriel Santos in Sydney this past weekend.

The fight seemed to be going his way after he dropped Santos in the first round but the tide started to turn in round two, and Jack Jenkins ultimately slumped to a third-round rear-naked choke loss at UFC 312.

Post-fight, it was reported that Jenkins was in intensive care following his second UFC defeat.

Following his post-fight medicals, Jenkins was discharged to reflect on a bad night at the office.

However, there was still some adversity waiting just around the corner. Australian MMA on Instagram reported that Team Jenkins was later informed that he would need further medical attention after a key piece of information had been missed from his scan.

The 31-year-old reportedly suffered an injury in the first round of the fight with fractured cartilage in his thyroid cartilage leading to an air leak.

Jenkins told his corner at the end of the opening five minutes of the bout that he couldn’t feel his left arm, which significantly impacted the remainder of the fight.

After spending some time under supervision in the intensive care unit, the featherweight fighter was released from the hospital on Monday – and now he’s issued a brief statement to give fans an update after his scary ordeal.

“I’m out of hospital at home now and will make a full recovery. Thanks for all the messages,” Jenkins wrote on his Instagram story on Tuesday.

He added: “When I started I thought my career might be like Black Caviar, but now I think it’s going to be more like Gods Own in the 05 Guineas. Tough.”

What’s next for Jack Jenkins?

It’s currently unclear how much time Jenkins will need to recover from the injury he suffered at UFC 312.

One thing is certain, whenever he is fit to fight again that scrap will happen inside the UFC Octagon.

Since joining MMA’s premier promotion, Jenkins has impressed many by picking up three wins.

Most notably, he beat Herbert Burns so badly that fans called for Dana White to cut him from the roster after UFC 305.

An arm injury led to his first UFC loss against Chepe Mariscal – but Santos is the first man to truly beat Jenkins in the Octagon, so he will definitely get another chance to impress after taking some time to heal up from UFC 312.
