‘The Diamond’ wants to go out in style by taking on some fellow legends of the fight game.
Dustin Poirier has made it clear that he only has one or two fights left in MMA before he hangs up the gloves for good.
With one eye on retirement, the former UFC interim lightweight champion wants to make sure that he makes these final few walks count by having his last couple of fights be worthy of his great career.
Therefore he is targeting some fun matchups against fighters that he deems to be of equal stature rather than taking on a rising contender like he did when facing Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299 last March.
Poirier recently said in an interview that Paddy Pimblett, for example, isn’t of interest to him in this final chapter of his career and ‘The Baddy’ has bit back.

Paddy Pimblett and Nate Diaz slate Dustin Poirier not wanting to fight ‘The Baddy’
After Dustin Poirier said that his next fight certainly won’t be against Liverpool’s Paddy Pimblett, he received a response from a former rival.
If there’s one fight that it’s a shame we never got to see from ‘The Diamond’ during his incredible UFC career it’s a matchup with Stockton’s Nate Diaz.
The two men were booked to face one another at UFC 230 in 2018 but the fight never ended up coming to fruition and there has been tension between them ever since.
Diaz hit out at Poirier on Instagram, writing on his story that Pimblett is better than him.
‘The Baddy’ ended up sharing the same post, referring to Diaz as a “real G” whilst referencing how Poirier fought Saint-Denis when he was #12 in the rankings just one year ago.
‘The Diamond’ responded to both men in an Instagram post where he said that they’re only using his name to generate headlines, once again stating that it is “legends only!”
Dustin Poirier is sure to have his eye on a key matchup at UFC 313
Due to his legend criteria, there aren’t a ton of options for the final fights of Dustin Poirier’s career.
Two names that might fit the bill are matched up with one another for a five-round co-main event at UFC 313 next month in Las Vegas.
Both Justin Gaethje and Dan Hooker have got history with Poirier having produced some of the best fights in recent years against the former interim champion.
Whilst the winner of that fight might be pushing for a title shot, it would make a lot of sense for Poirier to face either man in a rematch before he hangs up the gloves.
