Jon Jones drops major hint regarding his future in the UFC

Jon Jones’ fighting future has been in question now for a few months, ever since his comeback fight against Stipe Miocic.

This past November, Jon Jones controversially returned to the UFC Octagon to defend his heavyweight title against the returning 42-year-old Stipe Miocic. ‘Bones’ once again showcased why he’s considered the GOAT, stopping Miocic in round three.

The reason the fight was covered in so much controversy, is that earlier that year, Tom Aspinall defended his interim heavyweight title after Jones’ inactivity.

Prior to his defense against Miocic, Jones hinted at potentially retiring from MMA instead of fighting Aspinall in a unification fight, which caused uproar amongst the fanbase.

Jon Jones drops major hint regarding his fighting future

Although the 37-year-old champion seemed undecided regarding retiring or unifying the title against Aspinall, UFC boss Dana White remained hopeful that he could negotiate with the GOAT.

That is even though Jones was seemingly demanding a huge payday to fight the soaring Brit, White still claimed that he was 100% confident the fight would happen.

Despite being confident he could make the fight happen, the UFC boss did claim that he would strip Jones of the heavyweight title if he refused to fight Aspinall.

Recently, White gave a promising update regarding the fight, stating that nothing is holding up negotiations and he expects the fight to happen this year.

And with that, the champion has also dropped a major hint regarding his future, seemingly eluding to the fact that he will be sticking around to fight Aspinall.

“In 24 hours, I’ll be making a huge announcement! #AndStill,” Jones tweeted on X.

Dana White believes a fight against Jones could change Aspinall’s life forever

The 31-year-old Brit is widely regarded as one of the most unique heavyweights of all time because of his incredibly slick footwork and rapid hands.

Many believe that Aspinall could go on to surpass Jones’ legacy if he continues at the rate he is going as he already has the lowest average fight time in the UFC.

And with that, Dana believes that a fight against Jones could be ‘life-changing’ for Aspinall as it would get his name out there even more.

“I love that in a young, talented, aggressive heavyweight, that he actually wants to fight all the best. The problem in this business is you have guys who say a lot of things publicly but behind the curtains, don’t mean it, you know, don’t really want these fights,” he explained to talkSPORT MMA.

“Tom Aspinall is not that guy. Tom Aspinall wants to fight all the best in the world, and I love that. With the Jon Jones fight, a fight like that for a young, talented heavyweight, if he can win, if he can beat Jon Jones, it’s life-changing.”
