Paul Hughes responds to Conor McGregor attacking him on social media: ‘Shows where your head is at’

Paul Hughes is staying amicable despite Conor McGregor going for the jugular in vicious tweets.

‘Big News’ Hughes dropped a majority decision to Usman Nurmagomedov at PFL: Road to Dubai on January 25. Despite the event being billed as Ireland vs. Dagestan, Hughes stayed friendly with Team Khabib, accepting an invitation from Khabib to train in Dagestan.

Hughes initially received glowing support from Conor McGregor. ‘The Notorious’ has switched his tune after a wholesome backstage conversation between Khabib and Hughes was revealed, which showed them discussing rematch plans.

The footage also showed Hughes distancing himself from the Ireland vs. Dagestan rivalry, claiming, “I’m not like this other guy; I’m my own man.” A statement that riled McGregor.

Paul Hughes stays resolute in response to scathing Conor McGregor

In a series of deleted tweets on January 29, McGregor ripped into Hughes over his conversation with Khabib.

“Lick my a*** I’m farting in your face,” McGregor wrote. “Foreign hairy hole a*** licker. Yup the real Irish f*** these vermin f***. . . . Get that flag off you,” he continued in another message. “You know what you are c*** from up there [Northern Ireland].”

Hughes replied in a short message later on the same date. ‘Big News’ kept his cool, accusing McGregor of “coming at my Irish identity.”

“[Conor McGregor] I always said you were the [greatest of all time],” Hughes wrote. “Paid homage at every opportunity. But coming at my Irish identity just shows where your head is at.”

Conor McGregor squares off with 7’1 basketball player Brook Lopez

McGregor made headlines for squaring off with Brook Lopez at the Utah Jazz vs. Milwaukee Bucks game on January 27. 5’8″ McGregor puffed his chest out as 7’1″ Lopez stood head and shoulders above him.

“He asked how tall I was,” Lopez told collective media after the game. “… I knew at that point once I got up I had to size him up, I had to do a little something, I’ve seen the face-offs before so I knew I had to do my part.”

As for competing in his sport, McGregor has no fight news. McGregor’s alleged exhibition boxing match with Logan Paul has fallen through, and ‘The Notorious’ has been living up to his monicker through spats with other fighters in the meantime.
