In an interview on The MMA Hour, ‘GSP’ explained: “He made a very good adjustment in the second round; he was making me miss and countering me a lot. The first round, my overhand right was working well, and I was taking him down easier.
“But in the second round, his coach said to move more. I was not prepared for this fighting style. All my sparring partners were guys who were trying to take me out.
“Losing the second round, I came back in the corner, and Freddie Roach told me, ‘Now, he’s countering your overhand because he knows you’re going over his jab. Now, what you’re going to do is throw your right hand and come over the top with a left hook’. That’s how I knocked him down.
“Once I got him down, I gave him a little bit of space for him to turn belly down and try to stand up. He had a split-second that he exposed his back, and I sank in the rear-naked choke.”
