‘Unfinished business’… Hall of Famer names two potential boxing opponents following her surprising UFC exit

Boxing and future UFC Hall of Famer, Holly Holm has named two boxing opponents she believes she has unfinished business with ahead of her potential return to the sport.

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion, Holly Holm originally made her name in the boxing world where she held multiple Welterweight titles before making her transition to MMA.

Holm shocked the world in 2015 when she scored one of the biggest upsets of all time, knocking out Ronda Rousey in the second round of their UFC 193 title fight.

Earlier this week, it was surprisingly reported that Holm is leaving the UFC despite still having two fights left on her contract.

Holly Holm claims she has ‘unfinished business’ with Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano

‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ had only picked up one win in her last four UFC outings, with her last fight coming against Kayla Harrison at UFC 300 where she was disappointingly choked out in the second round.

Despite her recent regression, her exit from the promotion came as a huge surprise considering the fact she still had fights left on her contract.

However, the 43-year-old has stated that there is no negativity between her and the UFC despite her exit and she has revealed the reason why she decided to leave.

“It’s been eight months since my last fight… And I know that I’m not gonna fight forever but I still want a couple more and I had been in a little bit of talks just trying to see if anything would happen and I did want to be able to dance in the UFC one more time,” Holm said on The Ariel Helwani Show.

“It just didn’t seem like it was something that was gonna be promised and so I did have two fights left on the contract but that’s not always promised and I didn’t want to wait around forever either so I wanted to see what other options there are,” Holm continued.

When Holm was a professional boxer, she fought at 143lbs and higher but when she made her move to MMA she fought the majority of her UFC career at 135lbs.

Because of that, Holm believes she could have unfinished business in boxing with two champions near that weight, Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.

“When I boxed, I fought at 140, 147, and 154, I never fought at 135 in boxing so sometimes I feel like it’s unfinished business, do I go back and the people that have belts at that weight are (Amanda) Serrano and (Katie) Taylor,” Holm stated.

What is Holly Holm’s history in boxing?

Despite making her full transition to MMA in 2013, Holm’s bread and butter was boxing and she finished her boxing career with a 32-2-3 record.

In 2008, Holm became the undisputed welterweight champion, holding belts from 140lbs-154lbs and she is widely regarded as one of the best welterweight boxers of all time.

Not only that but in 2005 and 2006, she was awarded Ring Magazine Female Fighter of the Year and in 2022, he boxing career was recognised when she was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Holm fought the likes of Mary McGee, who went on to fight Chantelle Cameron who has had a rivalry with the aforementioned Katie Taylor.
